My dad planted one of these in our yard when I was little. It was his pride and joy of the yard. He pricked the back of his finger with it one day. It swelled up around the point of entry and stayed that way for a couple of weeks. Well one night at work a red line started going up his arm. He had blood poisoning from the infection and had to leave to go the ER.
Later that year the largest freeze since the 1930s struck Houston just before Christmas in 1983. It stayed below freezing for close to a week (very uncommon here) and got down to 10 degrees one of the nights. The freeze killed ended up killing the yacca. My dad loved it so much he actually cried a little. I only saw him cry once since and that was when his mother died. -
I had about 12 leaves on my yuka plant come together and form like a cage, caccoon looking thing
