Winter Garden - Growing Collards, Kale, Spinach and Broccoli
Tips, Tricks
My October 13, 2013 garden update. This video explains how I mixed my soil to successfully grow collard greens very quickly (about 3 weeks). Spinach, baby kale, broccoli and Brussell Sprouts are also part of our garden. Our garden cats, Midnight and Socks make cool appearances in this video.

HOW DO YOU KEEP THEM FROM DIGGING THINGS UP & USING IT AS A LITTER BOX? My neighbor had cats using my yard & gardens as a toilet & I was told you can't eat what grows in or near cat poop because you can get sick. Is that true? I hated the smell, I hated running into cat poop so much that i put plastic fence down to stop them, but it sucked because some things grew so huge the fence was halfway into corn & sunflowers, it did work, but only for the cats not the food. What a pain it was. She moved cats & all, & I am so in love with owning my own yard again, free of stink & poop. It was from only 2 cats, yet they went poo, P, & barfed on all my furniture to a point they ruined the cushions, so I stopped using cushions and tossed out the chairs that needed them. Sometimes they didn’t even cover their poo up. We get out of the car at night to wake up to the smell of cat poop in the house, on our shoes, they were crazy cats. I did learn, I will never again put friendship over cat abuse, after all, if they don't care enough about me to deal with their own pets, it’s not a friend. It’s not like I didn’t tell her, ask her, & show her, it was that nothing was ever done about it. She was all fake & didn’t care & didn’t want to deal with it, that showed me the quality of the person I once though highly of.

Tony the Back to Eden guy Paul has grown his potatoes in the same spot for many many yrs. He just makes sure he keeps plenty of mulch and the permaculturists say to use living mulches and chop and drop biodyamic accumulators and nitrogen fixers. They leave their plants in the same places. It is diversity of plants and maintaining the soil with plenty of organic materials. to keep the soil healthy. They say as long as your soil is healthy you do not have to rotate crops. Others must move their potatoes when they've had a blight or infestation to avoid the next yrs crop from also having the same problems. As long as you've had healthy veggies I personally do not see a reason for having to move them, but then again I have never grown potatoes multiple yrs in a row. I just watch a lot of gardening videos. I have begun to garden because of it but am still learning how to play in the soil. I am LOVING it tho! I want to commend you for your beautiful raised beds. You just grow boy.
