I used to think that the reason that leaves on tomato plants turned yellow was because of some kind of fungus.

Lack of Nitrogen would be my guess. Well other than bugs.:-) Tomato plants like nitrogen and don't produce their own so if your plants are not getting enough the leaves will turn yellow. You can also spray the plant with one tablespoon Epsom salt to one gallon of water every 2 weeks. This will also help the plant take up and use nitrogen.

Possibly poor soil mix, holds too much water, lack of drainage. You cant stop the rain. Put more holes in the pot.
