When And How To Water Seedlings In this video you will see when and how I water my seedlings (in this case tomato seedlings). Being in Arizona, I start taking my seedlings outside as soon as they emerge, for a little bit every day. Because of the dry and hot weather conditions here, I have to water them every day, and when it gets hotter than 80 degrees, twice a day. I can tell when is time to water my seedlings by the color of the soil and also by the weight of the planting cup. If my seedlings are in a solid cup, I would stick my finger into the soil to check how moist it is. I always bottom water my seedlings by filling up the tray with about an inch of room temperature water. Let them sit for about 20 to 30 minutes, or until the top of the soil is moist and dark.
