What We're Harvesting from the OYR Garden in September (Zone 5)
Tips, Tricks
Our first frost date is now only 3 weeks away, but the garden is still producing so much food that it’s a bit challenging to harvest it all. Today I’ll share what we’re harvesting in September here in zone 5, as the end of our summer garden draws near. If you shop on Amazon, you can support OYR simply by clicking this link (bookmark it too) before shopping: http://www.amazon.com/?tag=oneya-20 One Yard Revolution is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost, mulch, and compost tea. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used. I absolutely love your kitty! he must have such great adventures in his jungle. (It's not yours, of course- he's the king!)

Great looking harvest Patrick.
Was great to miss a few & compare them to what you're getting in your last few winter harvest clips. -
As usual Pat, your videos are, short, concise and very informative.
Well done and nice harvest. -
Full moon (only two days away) is a very testing time for me, it makes me tired, lethargic and angry yet despite this yesterday I went to collect approximately one cubic yard of 'em from the tree lined streets round here. I see in this video you' grow two varieties of sorrel Patrick. Have you also seen buckler leaved sorrel? Apparently it is 'en vogue' with chefs in London. Another perennial, I intend to sow some next Spring. Have you ever considered using hotbeds in your garden to extend your growing season Patrick? Check this video out of a lad a few miles from.

So inspiring to see the abundance your hard work has created!

do you grow any Jerusalem artichokes ?

Always beautiful and bountiful garden! We are getting tons of rain here as well, so we need sunshine. :)

Gosh all your greens get amazingly huge in your garden. That French sorrel is massive. The Ethiopian pumpkin recipe sounds interesting.

Great video! You'll love your HH once you get it built. I have had mine for 2 years, and it has extended my growing season tremendously. I am not heating it, therefore, the months of December, Jan, Feb prove challenging to grow much in zone 5 with 20 below temps. Sun availability is at it's lowest, making the HH cooler than most plants like.

Great video Patrick! Love Swiss chard too, what a generous plant.
The weather really dropped here, from high 20's to 8 C today! I'm running like crazy trying to preserve it all, trying new recipes and freezing methods. Take care my friend, Elyse. -
Good stuff mate we are still harvesting. A lot of our tomatoes split dry summer then big storm still good eating ,-)

Congrats on another bountryful year! My first garden was a success indeed. Now that we are looking for our own home and intend to stop renting. we are looking for a place with enought land where I can continue my foray into gardening! Thanks for all the video and inspiration!

Patrick could you do a video on how you start your swiss chard from seeds. Do you start them in the ground or container. Could you also a video of the front yard garden if possible. thanks

Looking forward to the hoop house build and to see it in use this winter. I had the same luck with Hokkaido Pumpkin/squash. First time I've grown it and I got one good sized one in the hoop house and a runt out in the garden, male blossoms by the dozen and hardly any female flowers.

Hi Patrick, Just wondering why you had the grate/grid over the carrots? Love your videos. Thanks!

Absolutely fantastic haul of goodies. I love those purple potatoes. Do they stay purple when cooked eg chips? French fries as you call them? My squash stayed at 2" long but my pumpkins grew well. Never eaten them or grown them but they look gorgeous and all ripened now and dried. What do I do with them? Can't wait to see your videos from your hoop house ( we call them polytunnels)

Nicely done... The hoop house you are going to make.... did you ever hear that glass or plastic covering reduces more than 50% vitamin/minerals uptake in vegetables. I am not sure if this is true, but have you ever seen research on this matter...Thanks Mark
