I know this hasn't got anything to do with you, but I got a really inspiring advert about Ukraine, so thank you.

I read the description and i saw that you started gardening at age 12. Well im 12 and I LOVE gardening i cant go to home depot without buying seeds or plants. My mom promised to let me make a little garden in our front yard and she would pay for it so im going to plant mostly tomatoes because i LOVE the taste and love to see them grow i currently only have 3 tomato plants (Husky cherry red, Early girl 50 days, and Roma tomatoes.) i love gardening i actually get emotional when i see my plants die even if they are suppose to like potato plants and garlic but it only lasts until i realize i can harvest :P

Alicante good all rounder viv

loved the video as a new allotment owner I find the video inspirational. My tomatoes did not fair too well either and I did use Epsom salts.
-
My comments are per the veg so tomatoes we had split ones from the rain also. We did get great volumes earlier though. We tried a new staking method that worked well and was easy to do. I will send pics.
Cucumber - great harvest. My fave recipe : http://dishingupthedirt.com/recipes/soup/chilled-cucumber-soup-with-farm-fresh-herbs/
The carrot sniffing made me drool which is funny. My carrots get eaten underground by these field mice type things here called Voles. They et underground too so you pull out what appears to be a perfect carrot (or beet) and it's entirely eaten minus what's left I the top of the carrot or beer. So so annoying.
Rusty- if you want him out while you are there, squirt him with water or lure him out with some catnip in a scratch board. He won't even care but I hope he's behaving and not making it his cat box! -
Viv, if you freeze the tomatoes overnight and chuck them in the hot water, the skin will come right off. I learned this nice little tip from Mrs Volfie. :) You are right the cucumbers are great for smoothies,...yum.

The split tomatoes you can save the seeds for next year.
-
Really nice harvest there Vivi and all the other veggies on your plot seems to be doing good.
-
Vivi, peeling those little tomatoes is easy if you freeze them first. Then dump hot water on them, and the skins slip right off. I do that every year, freezing tomatoes as they ripen, and then when I have about 30 lbs all together, then they get skinned, made into a sauce with onions, celery and peppers, cooked down for a few hours in the oven, and then put into jars and processed.

Loved this episode as well. Really captivating seeing Vivi harvesting her beautiful produce. Cucumbers too big! No, they are wonderful. Admired your spacing as well, nothing too close together, always my fault trying to cram in too many plants. Thanks Sean en Vivi, even though I am in Nw Zealand and still tending to my seedlings tucked in the glasshouse. bursting to be planted out, it is lovely to see you in early autumn picking away.

Let us know what the flakkee carrots were like. I'm thinking of trying them next year! What variety were the bigg'uns?! didi they taste ok? Love these catch ups. :)
-
Vivi mentioned in your video, is there any folks out there with any other variety of toms that might be good to try . I was just commenting on the varieties I grow and save seed from and were I purchased those original seeds from. Maybe, because I am from Norfolk, people don't understand what I am trying to say,as I was not talking about cross pollenating to get a new variety but buying a non f1 variety from a shop.
-
you will not get any new variety of seeds of toms from your own plot that's why I suggested the real seed company as all seeds can be saved, only trying to be helpful.
-
thanks for the video you answered my question in it.. was going to ask if my carrots are OK left in as I'm in hospital for 2 weeks so no getting out in the garden :(
-
Them Green Tomatoes can be ripened by putting them in paper and sticking them in a draw, That's how i ripen my green toms
-
WOW. Everything looks brilliant. Thanks for the update Vivi, Sean and Rusty
-

Nice Gardeners Delight Tomatoes - pity some of them split. You have some great carrots there . I would think you will be making Leek and potato soup soon. Fantastic Carrots. Rusty is very curious. all the best
