Though the game is technically a Harvest Moon game, Marvelous cannot call it "Harvest Moon" in North America because Natsume owns the name. In the game, the player takes up residence in Oak Tree Town in order to try a simpler lifestyle. You can grow crops, own and tend livestock such as chickens, cows, goats, sheep, and even llamas! In order to sell any of your products, you must go to the Trade Depot, a place where vendors from other countries will come to sell and purchase goods. The Trade Depot originally only has one vendor: Silk Country. Over time, you can get up to seven different vendors from different countries, each with different goods to purchase. Besides seeds, materials, and recipes, you can also buy blueprints to make decorative items, wallpaper, and even buildings. You can choose to focus on making perfume, wine, clothing, cheese, the possibilities are endless! You may also want to befriend the townspeople by giving them gifts. Some of them are farmers like you, which can spark rivalries. You can compete with them for extra fields in order to grow even more crops. Like other Harvest Moon games, you can get married and have children. There are several bachelors and bachelorettes in town that you can woo and eventually propose to once specific requirements are met. Throughout the year, there are several festivals to partake in like the cooking festival, livestock expos, the harvest festival, the fishing tournament, fashion fiestas, and much more! And if you get bored of all that, you can head to the Safari to befriend the animals that live there, forage for wood and other materials, and take your hammer to mine precious ore.
