oh thank you for your videos! I had a venus flytrap some years ago and it eventually died because we watered it with tap water and fed it meat....I just had the courage to buy one today...it has huge traps, like 3 cm in length, never seen one in the store so big, also the insides are pink-red and its sprouting 2 new leaves. From what I understood so far: my plant thinks that its Spring-Summer right now(because big traps) and it wants food ASAP. Also when leaves turn black, it will want to sleep? Unfortunately she can't get food right now cause when i went outside the store and hit the cold air all the traps closed but it seems that they started to loosen up a bit...Thank you!

+AlboPepper - Drought Proof Urban Gardening Hi! So I have a little Venus' flytrap that's just kept inside in a little pot and I got it just a few months ago. I live in an area where it gets cold in the winter but like I said my plant is kept inside so I don't know if that would make a difference. Right now it looks totally healthy but I just found out that they might not live long if they don't go dormant in the winter, so should I try putting it in the fridge this year? Or maybe, since I think it's a fairly young plant, do you think it's okay to wait till next year? Thanks.

Thanks for your wealth of knowledge in the video and in the comment section responses to viewers' questions!!! Just got my baby yesterday with 6 beautiful tiny leaves and 5 more budding. It's still fairly warm here in south Florida with drier air in the daytime, so it "feel" cooler without the humidity. They are bright green with no sign of pink yet, so I think I'll leave them be for a time as I maintain the soil. I've got no green thumb (I could kill a cactus probably, lol) but I'm a researcher by heart, so your videos are helpful!!!

Love your video. Thanks for showing how to enter this dormancy cycle. I have seen other video's how to do this but, yours is the best in putting them in the refrigerator. I also do not want to use any fungicides on these little ones. This is the first year I have grown VFT and they have been "Beautiful ". I did use rain water as you suggested. It really was the best for them. Do you have another video on the mixture that you use when you repot your VFT in the Spring ?? Thanks again and looking forward to seeing your other video's.

Great video! I've just tried VFT for the first time this year with great success. I'm glad I saw this! This is what I'll do this fall. Thanks! One thing, do you find it better to grow with so much soil? mine are growing in about 1" deep 50/50 peat moss silica sand in a saucer of water and they do very well.

Hi there! I just bought 3 Vft`s plants and I have them outside for a about 8 hours in the sun then I bring them in and lightly water them with pure drinking water, Anyway I was wondering if Eco dirt that you buy at the pet store would be ok to plant them in? Also if I put them in the fridge with a plastic bag over them (which I have seen on these videos)will they run out of air? and how about watering them while in the fridge? I am not that comfy with pulling them out as you did and cutting but I do cut off the black heads when they turn......

i just received a vft as a present. i have no idea how to take care of them but i sure dont want it to die on me. i live in Albuquerque New Mexico. where is it best to store them? what do i feed it? any tips would help

Hallo! I come from Greece... and we bought a venus plant just 2 weeks ago!...It seems healthy ..we also fed it twice with mosquitos...It also grows 1 new leaf every few days and keeps having new ones... but they are not red inside...they are just green! & they are also short growing not tall...like if it prepers itself for Winter dormancy! But we still have summer!!! so...what am i suppose to do? I also have no idea where to find that moss plant that keeps other plants moist... so i spray it with bottle water a lot... Is there any other trick i can use?... :-)

Would a venus flytrap that you have just bought need to go through dormancy early? My venus flytraps are turning black along with the baby ones. The two traps I have fed haven't opened in weeks and I don't know why. If it does need to go through dormancy, how would I expose it to colder temperatures when it's warm out still? Or is the plant perhaps getting too much light and that's why the traps are dying since it isn't used to the light? I heard though that the baby traps would be able to withstand the stronger light, but they are slowly turning black as well. I have been using distilled water and have the plant in sphagnum moss.

Your plants look great! I just leave mine outside (Seattle, where our winters are milder) but an unheated basement room also does fine; if you have that (no hard freezes tho) you can just leave them in the pot with their winter leaves.

Does it have to be bermiculite or can it be like moss?

What if you start growing them in the winter?
