Do you use water afterwards?

I added sand, top soil, lime to my clay soil and it worked very well.

For years, I've added swimming pool filter sand (100lbs at the end of the season) , grass, leaves, lime then deep rototill my garden. The orange clay is loose and grows plants nicely.

Listen to Ashton. Sand is the worst to mix into clay soil. It will eventually turn into cement. They say use sharp sand, but really, here in Chicago, it'll turn into material you can't grow anything in. Gypsum and organic material is best.

Thank you for this good info Rick!

Do not add sand! Sand will turn clay to brick. Stick with gypsum and organic matter
