If IT has no spotts on the chest and has a brown Face ITS a male -
quail are not calm birds they will never get close to you..and give them some of the fodder to you do know that they do no set their eggs? so get an incubator also set up a brooder box you can use a large plastic box and cover it with a screen or wire mess putting the light cover it good luck they are a lot of fun to watch as for incubator try stil-right they are American made the 3600 is about 100.00 and are really good it has auto turner amd temp control and huminity gage hold 36 chicken eggs or 134 quil eggs and believe me up will get up to that number before you know it have funn keep us posted

What an awesome addition! It's great that you're able to do all this without any bylaw trouble. I am unable to keep any small livestock or poultry despite living on a partially wooded acre lot because the city of Ottawa has dug their heels in. Basically, the 85% of land within the city limits that is rural gets treated like the 15% of land that is urban. I did a bunch of research on all the cities and towns in Canada that allow a certain amount of poultry and/or small livestock and detailed the different regulations in a letter that I sent to my city councillor but I just got a courtesy response so I don't think it's done anything.

Looking forward to more quail videos in the future

Do yourself a favor and give them rabbit water bottles to drink from. So much cleaner. ACV in the water will reduce likelihood of bumblefoot since they're on wire. I give them a rubber feed pan full of oyster shell or dirt for dust bathing. They lay in the pans as well and the shell grit keeps the eggs clean and unbroken.

Eddy, you can have up to three cotunix per square foot - great eggs and they start laying sooner than chickens.
-
coturnix quail will start laying at about 6 to 8 weeks don't raise them anymore but they are a lot of fun and good eating use to have about 10 females and 5 males hatched eggs about 50 at a time

Look into adding a shallow pan of sandy dirt for "dust baths".. Quail love them.
-
Hmm did you stop raising rabbits just coz of your neighbors?
-
Very nice! Good idea checking with the Bio Officer first. They are sure cute little things! Can't wait to see how they do.
-
WAY TOO FUNNY! I'm already making plans on doing quail next year myself. I'm hoping to try hatching mine next spring.

Lovey birds to keep just don't like the cold

You beat me to it. My son raises quail in Georgia. He fixed me a bunch of eggs for breakfast. We also had quail for supper once. It was all very good.

This is what I want too. I have been considering them for some time, and after watching a few of my Youtube friends raising them, I'm pretty much sold on Quail. It will only be me, and my son, so I need a lot more control than having birds all over the property. This is why I like your videos so much. Rabbits and Quail look like the easiest for me to handle, and I need that. I'm way too old to run around the yard all day! LOL Love the video! Bless, Sheila
