Urban Agroecoloy: 6,000 lbs of food on 1/10th acre - Urban Homestead - Urban Permaculture
Tips, Tricks
Over 6,000 pounds of food per year, on 1/10 acre located just 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. The Dervaes family grows over 400 species of plants, 4,300 pounds of vegetable food, 900 chicken and 1,000 duck eggs, 25 lbs of honey, plus seasonal fruits throughout the year. From 1/10th of an acre, four people manage to get over 90% of their daily food and the family reports earnings of $20,000 per year (AFTER they eat from what is produced). This is done without the use of the expensive & destructive synthetic chemicals associated with industrial mono-cropping, while simultaneously improving the fertility and overall condition of the land being used to grow this food on. Scaled up to an acre, that would equal $200,000 per year! To follow the Dervaes and their Urban Homesteading activites, you can find them at http://urbanhomestead.org Urban and near-urban farming can be highly productive, causing whatever size of land you have to work with to produce with more abundance. It is time to solve hunger worldwide, through creating local food abundance.... Anyone can do it, once you learn how.

I love this! My grandpa grows tomatoes in my moms teeny tiny front yard of an apartment. I need to ask him how he does it . When he was much younger he would plant nopales

Wow 1/10 of an acre. That's smaller then where I liveinHawaii, 1/4 acre and that's small for me. Use to living on 1 -3 acres over here. Obviously you don't have a lawn, something I ❤️, but then you are in southern CA, drought country. And then you need all the water for your veggies and fruit and all the land space for your food. Are you gonna start a homestead community in LA Area or somewhere else. Maybe would consider moving back to CA for something like that. Love you folks. Aloha from da Big Island.🏝🌋

They do not allow rain collection where I live in west Ga. It's a watershed thing. And stupid to boot.
DARTH VADER'S REPLY: They are experimenting on how people will react to resist the anti-independence evil U.N AGENDA 21 POLICY TO MAKE PEOPLE TOTALLY LESS INDEPENDENT AND TOTALLY VULNERABLE AND HELPLESS TO STATE DEPENDENCY AND CONTROL SO AS TO CONTROL YOU AND EVERYBODY. THE U.N IS NOTHING BUT A BANKSTER CORPORATE ORGANIZATION HIDING BEHIND A FACADE OF "PRETENDING IN BEING A GOOD ORGANIZATION WHEN IN FACT IT IS AN EVIL ORGANIZATION OF THE BANSKTERS-CORPOCRACY-OLIGARCHY-OLIGOPOLISTS-CARTELISTS-MONOPOLIES OF WALL STREET, BANK OF LONDON, THE E.U, NAFTA, GATT, TPP, TIPP, CENTRAL BANKSTERS, PRIVATE BANKSTERS, CORPORATE CONTROLLED CORRUPT POLITICIANS IN THE U.S CONGRESS, U.S SENATE, IN THE WHITE HOUSE, IN THE SUPREME COURT, ETC. This also explains the increasing harrassments against small heirloom family seed farms and self-contained family farms and against the self-contained Amish Communities. Food and Water are now a weaponized commodities used to control and enslave local domestic populations as well as foreign populations. They do not want a nation of self-contained INDEPENDENT WELL ARMED FARMERS AND MACHINE TOOL BLACKSMITHS WHO CAN PRODUCE EVERYTHING THEY NEED AND RECYCLE EVERYTHING THEY NEED WITHOUT ANY NEED FOR CORPORATIONS WHO ARE NOW IN CONTROL OF THE WORLD'S GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE EVIL U.N WHICH HAS BEEN AGAINST THE INDEPENDENCE AND SOVEREIGNTY OF THE CHRISTIAN-BASED U.S CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC OF AMERICA! -
you can hear the freeway in the background they're growing food under a cloud of smog

Glad I have acreage cuz damn I hate stuffy farmlands. Damn I hate them, but they are GREAT for the environment.

Most cities will not let you grow like this with their zoning codes.

Inspiring, beautiful garden and organic lifestyle in sunny California, you really are living the life. Congratulations to you and your great family.

too bad when your neighbours spray chemicals everywhere; your kids are too 'busy' to help around the house etc etc. This would not work for 99% of people and thus we are heading for extinction.
