Turnips: Three Tips to Growing Them to a Good Size: Loose Soil, Low Nitrogen, Spacing -TRG 2016
Tips, Tricks
Turnips are cool weather vegetables and should be picked before the temperatures get into the high 80's regularly. Plant them about 2 weeks before frost ends in your area. Give them a loose soil, low nitrogen and space them about 4-6 inches apart and you will get... good size turnips. They take anywhere from 45-90 days to mature. Thank you :)

very informative video Gary, thank you. I am constrained to growing my vegetables in containers due to lack of space but I will give turnips a try. Eibhlin

I planted my first garden this year your videos have gave me a lot of knowledge

Thanks for sharing! I like your idea putting the date planted on your wooden label. The wooden label looks like it works better then the tiny plastic lables. I'm in Maryland too so I like all your videos and follow when you start your seeds. I find the requirments for different plant nutrients gets complicated. For now I just put compost on and hope for the best.

this might sound like a dumb question but how exactly do you eat these? like potatoes?

I grew turnips for the first time this year. they are bigger than my fist. I grew them for the turnip greens. now I need to figure what I'm going to do with all these turnips.

Great turnips! I've tried growing them with no success I think the problem was too hot I'm definitely gonna start some maybe in Nov or Oct when our weather gets a little cooler. Or maybe later than that! Anyway Mahalo!👍🏼🌻

+Gary Pilarchik Great Video, I had a good turnip harvest, I started broccoli late and it's gotten really hot and I haven't seen any heads since planted only leaves, should I pull them up or leave them through the summer , do you grow collards as well

Best gardening videos online.

I love how you combine organic fertilizers with chemical fertilizers. Good idea, I might do this in my planters this winter. Big harvest, wow.

Good job Gary. Turnips are one of those vegetables where we can eat the tops and bottoms. I will be planting turnips for a fall crop. Here they will hold in the ground all winter if we don't get single digit temperatures. Thanks for the video!

Very nice! Mine were ravaged by something? Holes everywhere! Bought some of your Neem oil now I'll take care of the problem. Great service and super fast shipping! Thanks Gary!

Thanks, Gary! So strange, my seed packet told me to sow them from june onward. I just sowed them so let's hope they don't bolt. I will just treat them like radish next year then. Lovely crop by the way! Happy gardening to you.
