TRG 2012: Tour of The Rusted Vegetable Garden with Gardening Tips 5/27/12
Tips, Tricks
This is a tour of my garden at the end of May. I know these videos can be kind of long so I added some gardening tips through out the tour. They include using Iron Phosphate, Sevin Dust, Caging Zukes, Using Transplants and how to manage the Cabbage Worm or Looper. Enjoy.

Love this tour even though it's a couple years old. Very nice.

I have an organic trick for keeping squash bugs off your zucchini: mix cigarette ashes in the soil when planting the seeds. Give a friend a coffee can for collecting their cigarette ashes. Only takes about 3 T. of ash per seed. I have been doing this for years and never get the squash bugs anymore. :)

Have you tried diatomaceous earth for flea beetles? I had a small problem with them last year, and it seemed to do the trick for me.

Thanks

Nice gardens.

No holes "in it, on it" it's all the same, LOL. Great tour, Gary. I am going to post a video response of my Garden Tour if you'd like to check it out.

Thanks for clarifying this Gary. I think it's bugs chomping at my Swisschard

My garden is growing. Bt works for caterpillar. It doesnt have a broad use just in case you thought it might. Very specific. Good luck with bugs. They are a drag.
-
I love your garden! It's a veggie paradise. I need to get some BT! I've been combatting the bugs with organic homemade spray, but I think I have to turn it up a notch.

They get a lot of free vegetables.

Your Neighbors must love it.

Well I wouldnt use Sevin Dust or Basil or Lettuces. Sounds like you have a caterpillar of some sort. One I haven't encountered. I am going to put the question over on to my blog today and see what others might recommend. For now... you could try soapy water spray. Basil does grow fast. Go seed it in two other places. If you look around carefully in the morning you might find it in your basil. Gross but follow the trail of excrement.

AH Thanks. Ill look into using it. Maybe Ill plant another eggplant and try only neem. Every year not matter what part of my yard I put it in... my eggplants get flea beetles.
-
Neem oil works by coating the leaves and then making the insect sick when they eat the sprayed leaves. It won't harm you. I have had fairly good success by using this for both cabbage loopers and flea beetles with kale, broccoli, and others.
-
No okra. I havent tried neem oil. Does it kill if it doesnt coat the flea beetles? I use the Sevin because the hopping beetles will die when they hop through it. I though with neem I had to hit the beetles. But I dont know for sure.
-
A very nice garden! Have you tried Neem Oil for the flea beetles versus Seven? Is there any okra in your garden?
