Tips, Tricks
This video shows you a basic technique for starting basil indoors in seed cells. What I also wanted to stress is that there are many kinds of basil. I started Cinnamon Basil, 'Summerlong' Basil, Large Leaf Basil, Lemon Basil, Dwarf Bush Basil and Purple Ruffle Basil.

Gary, i used some seed cells for my basil this April and did not have a good turn out on the basil. The cells were just some laying around from years past . I'm thinking maybe i should have washed them ? I used the same kind of seed starter mix as you so i know it's not my mix. Do you wash your cells or buy new ones? Thanks !

Love your vids, this is my first year doing gardening and your vids help me a lot

nice!

So you had to poke holes in those plastic containers so you can water from the bottom?
I bought jiffy cups, I don't know how that will work with that... -
how warm should it be outside before transplanting in the garden?
-
I would like to try this, so thanks my friend. We love our basil and it is expensive to buy them from the store on the weekly basis.

Hi GAry! Me again. My basil is doing well and needs to be put into cups soon. I was wondering about the splitting of the seed cell into two cups. You will still get maybe between 3-5 seedlings growing in each cup. Do these all then go into the large pot where the plants will fully develop? When I buy a seedling at the store, it comes as one large seedling which in turn grows into a large plant. With this method, do the 3-5 seedlings grow well together or will they crowd each other out? I'm just confused about the end game here. Thanks so much.

Gary, could you do a video talking about the major veggies and herbs and their light requirements while you are waiting for them to germinate? It's confusing. I'd love a quick response too regarding tomatoes/basil/peas.
-
? Would you use the over seeding method on Spicy Bush Basil variety also?
-
I have like 5 little plants of purple basil that is on a stage of seedlings since 1 month or more, is this normal? also, it took like 1 month to germinate

I have grown 3 different kids of basils indoors and I have gotten them to 2 feet tall in about 2 to 3 months and they were throwing off 2 branches per node.
I found when growing basil when you pick those pre-flower heads is that they are the ones that have the most oils inside compared to the leafs.
Planting 1 to 2 seeds each is good because you can propagate the basil plants to get even more so this will help to save seeds. -
how do you water them from the bottom??????????????????????
-
I know, you can really save a lot of money. And the next year it costs even less because you can reuse the cells.
-
I was a happy camper this year because I did not buy one plant that was started at nursery. Oops, I did buy some mail order onion plants and sweet potato slips. It's easy to start plants!
-
When it gets really warm some basil types go to flower. If it stays cool that should last.

I have a 8 lemon basil plants no more than 1 month and a week old and are in a 5 inch container. Could the lemon basil plants survive for a couple more weeks, like say 3 more? Thanks.
