I bought a coriander/cilantro in a pot yesterday - i've killed about 3 or so lots of basil so far so i'm really worried about my corriander which seems to perish hours after brining home pre-cut from the grocery store...they seem kind of fragile. is it really okay to just tug stems off them or should I consider using scissors to cut off what I need? I'm probably just being precious about it but...so many dead basils on my concience; i'm not a green thumb :(

Yes and yes and in the sun. The trick for cilantro is to plant it in pockets around you garden and about every two weeks apart. The other thing you can do is let some plants fully mature. The flowers bring great beneficial insects to your garden and it will reseed itself.

It's June and I will try to plant cilantro. Do you think I should plant them on shade and a little bit of sun will be ok?
-
Thank you for your time :)

I think only when it looks dry. Sounds like you have enough soil. Watch the top of the soil and when it appears dry just give it some water. If you like a schedule, every other day or two should be fine. Good luck.

In a metal container :) It is my first time trying to grow cilantro at my house , I am a mexican living in Boston and I need it ji ji ji :)

I love cilantro! I let my plants grow out & flower last year then collected all the coriander seeds & stored. I planted the same seeds several weeks ago in my green onion bed & they have sprouted! Bugs don't bother them for their tender sprouts. I collected a lot of seeds from last season so I intend to plant more of them to have a continual supply of cilantro & collect more seeds.

why are my cilantro leaves edges turning black?

While it is pretty cool out 80s and under more sun the better. When it gets 90 degree summer... partial shade helps.
-
Should I plant cilantro in partial shade? Thanks Bev

i use cilantro almost every time i make anything with lettuce as well... it's great in salsa, but it's even better in every single salad or lettuce topped dish you'll ever eat... eg. when i make scrambled egg (or any kind of) burritos or tostadas/tacos for my kids, i mix together romaine or iceberg with spinach & a lot of chopped cilantro to go in, then drizzle a hint of lime over the lettuce & OMG, the kids think i'm a genius chef LOL
