I'm gardening cuz it's fun, I'm scared that something bad will happen and I won't have food (hence all my heirlooms). I like to be healthy, and I love the taste.

Reasons why I'm gardening but I can't pick one: 1)Learn and get better at it so I can one day grow more of my own food and I don't want to rely on others as much 2)I never liked lawns and I love food instead 3)Get a variety of fresh delicious unique things like heirloom stuff like crazy purple carrots or whatever that I've grown from seed 4)Over the long term I want to break even and come out ahead maybe sell some stuff like extra plantings or whatever, or just offset the cost of food. 5)I want to get at least as good of quality as most organic stuff at the store, but I don't want to pay those prices 6)I think knowledge of this sort of thing is important and don't want it to be lost and I want to teach it to my son and wife and family and friends. 7) Someday I might get more land and I want to be able to utilize the crap out of it like have a huge orchard & garden 8) survivalist skills are fun to learn 9)When I retire, I want to be pretty awesome at this stuff and spend time outside 10)I love being outside and I like creating and inventing things and I want to apply my creative skills to plant 11)Science is awesome and plants are very approachable, I want to be better at all science and plant science in particular especially plants related to food 12)I want to do somethings more mindfully, strategically and with planning ahead and executing complex plans but with improvising as I go, building a system level awareness of what the affect of many of the small decisions I'm making are, like playing a chess game against societal trends that I don't want to be forced to follow (like instant gratification), and to make some of these behaviors 2nd nature for me. 13)I want to be more excited to decrease my consumption of meat by having lots of things that I've grown that I'll need to eat (so they don't go bad) 14)I want to be urge my friends to grow things in a cooperative/competitive way and make new friends that do the same. 15)it's more productive than playing with a rubix cube or playing video games. 16) My habits are usually to be super cheap and I want to learn where and when it's smart for me to focus on quality, in that wife my wife is pretty good at being willing to spend money and gardening is a way we can both learn to balance quality and cost while working on something we're excited to show each-other.

I started to garden because my and girlfriend and I started to juice and I told her maybe we should put a small garden in corner of yard, but that one sentence turned into four 55 Gallon rain barrels, automatic drip system, worm bin, growing Comfrey, and my garden I still have plans for some wicking beds.... Gardening is alot of fun and keeps me in shape turning compost pile once a week lol

You made a good point about people saying you use too much products to garden. Well, if they want to garden in the city, they have to do it your way or move out to the country and raise their own animals to get manure to compost with and start their composting to provide great soil. Or, if they can, find an organic compost provider off a farm, good luck tho, there are not many farms left these days. So John, people don't think about what they are saying, or they are very young and don't understand, but you just keep growing the way you do and making your fantastic viedos. All the best!

I still dont know what products to buy

In all honesty, we just can't afford to buy all of our food anymore. Family of 5 on 2 full time jobs still can't afford all the bills and groceries, even after downsizing our place to live, as well as cutting TV and home phone out entirely.
