Tomatoes - Suckers and Pruning tips
Tips, Tricks
Zone - 6b My opinions and some facts about suckers ,how to identify a sucker, also how and why I prune the lower branches. This only pertains to indeterminate tomatoes .as far as I know, you should never prune or pinch a determinate tomato as they produce all their tomatoes in one short (approx. 2 week) period. pinching will not "hurt" a plant but the benefits will be determined by your growing zone, avg growing days, type of support system and "what grandma always did". I wish everyone good luck and a good harvest ,,by pinching ...or not pinching. or in my case .."selective pinching"

Thank you!

Great video but, you got one thing wrong. The small stem that appears in the ''Crotch'' area you claim is a sucker, Your right, also, that ''Branch'' or any branch that does not bloom, is also a ''sucker''. You can eliminate ANY non-blooming branch on the plant. Any non-blooming branch on a tomato plant, is a sucker.

Thanks dude, started growing veg a few weeks ago and have a load of plants starting life. Something to do between gaming XD. This video helped a bunch. You've gained a subscriber and a like. Thanks!

Need to trim you tomato on the top or else it will be top heavy. Leave those "suckers" on, they are just another branch sprouting out. Need the tomato to grow outward not upward for better yield.
-
great video I was wondering if you put your tomatoes in your own boxes and and why you have straw on top of the soil? TIA

Thank you! Great visual on suckers and what to prune. I can't wait to give your tip a try on my own plants. Also I loved the information that you can plant a larger one to make another plant. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
