TOMATOES - GROWING LATE TOMATOES (OAG 2015)
Tips, Tricks
In this video I show how to successfully get late tomatoes through the hot and dry July/August days. The trick is to make a tent of newspaper to shade the plant for a few days until it can get established. I planted the seeds on 27 June, potted them up 20 July and set them in the garden on 31 July. UPDATE: As of today, 5 Aug, I have had three plants die, even though I watered them and shaded them. I have extra plants so I will replace the dead ones. Its difficult to grow plants during the hottest days of summer. If you like this video, please comment below, tell me what you would like to see more of in my videos. It is good to see you giving them plenty of water to allow the plant to survive until the roots can begin to grow. Watching the Barefoot Gardener in Nashville and others we have to begin asking what micro nutrients are available in our soil and in our food to nourish us. We can say for sure that your tomatoes are much more nutritious and tasty too compared to those grown hydroponically. Nice video.

Too much Texas heat and sunlight causes my roma tomatoes to harden on the top sunlit side and ripen on the bottom shaded side.

Well done OldAlabamaGardener. The care you gave to each plant was amazing. :)

Great video. Thank you.

Neat tricks, thanks for the show! I got to try that blight trick... I pulled 10 plants so far this year. But my favorite tomato bush is 7/8 ft tall now.

Thanks for sharing another helpful video. I have a dozen tomato plants ready to go but I've been too ill to get them in the ground in this heat (central Alabama). I'll keep them alive for a few more days - until the daytime temp goes down to 91 degrees and hopefully I'll be a little stronger. Your videos are nicely done, including your written descriptions. Thanks again for sharing.

Hey, nice upload, wish we could have later tomatoes here, sadly we rarely get the climate for this in UK, its tempting to move abroad, if only it were that easy. Cheers. Dan.

Thank you for the video. I got a late start on my tomatoes and they are still producing. II might try to plant some more in a few weeks.

Thanks for posting the tomato tent. I had envisioned a cone shape. Surprised the paper doesn't smother the plant as in wilt it down.

We might have some tomatoes soon

Oh this will be fun to see if there is enough time in the season to get more tomatoes. And even more fun to see what you get since you are working with a hybrid. Tomato tents LOL come on guys we're going camping for a couple days. That is a great idea in our scorching heat.

Interesting to see how the seeds will perform.

The fascination of watching a tomato plant grown from seed never ceases for me .What was the pale powder you added to the potting mix along with the tomato fertilizer? I couldn't catch it in the video. Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Please do upload what ever you are doing in your garden. Happy gardening!
