Tips for growing out relaxed hair You don't have to be natural to have healthy long hair I have a few tips that I learned since I started getting relaxers Every since I was born I had long thick hair. My hair grows pretty quickly. I cut my hair in a bob in 9th grade and my hair grew out really quick. I started getting relaxers when I was in the 7th grade I believe. My hair would shrink and when it was flat ironed it was gorgeous Tip #1- go to a salon you trust and get relaxers. Never do them yourself in your kitchen. Tip #2- moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I can't say this enough. Dry hair is never the answer. When you moisturize and it leaves a oily look just put it in a bun for a couple of days to let it soak in. Do not add heat after adding oil, you will fry your hair When I got my first sew in I moisturized my hair and scalp before I got it braided and people told me not to do that but it was a must for me. To protect my hair under the sew in. That's brings me to my next tip Tip #3- wear protective hair styles. If you haven't been to the Salon wear a low bun, a braid out, a twist out. Anything but heat. Tip #4-Do not flat iron your own hair. Do not add unnesscary heat to your hair. When I leave the hair salon I will go 4 weeks w/o flat ironing because I wrap it every night Tip #5- as a black girl we can't wash our hair every day unless you have naturally curly hair w/ the baby hairs and all. We have to wash our hair every week or every two weeks. But for me , I go as long as possible without washing my hair unless my hair dresser is doing it. Minimize how much you wash your hair at home. I sometimes go 4 weeks without washing. And it works for me. If you have to wash your hair at home, air dry your hair. Do not blow dry it! And comb out your ends and be very gentle while detangling Tip #6- space out your perms. Don't get them every 4 weeks, every 6 weeks. I go every 8-10 weeks. At that point my new growth is very thick and ready and for like two weeks it's been in a low bun moisturized Tip #7- when you have new growth, the rest of your hair is relaxed while the top isn't. Never comb your hair from the roots to the ends when you need a relaxer. It's breaking off your hair. Only comb out the ends and leave the top how it is. Tie a scarf around you edges. Tip #8- I don't use edge control. I refuse. I hate it. It dries up and looks dumb. Use grease and a scarf. Tip #9- don't buy cheap products, don't use gel. That's a no no Tip #10- get your ends clipped by a professional. Tip#11- don't add color. A perm and dye can damage your hair. If you want color get a sew in and color that hair And that's pretty much all the tips I have. I live by those and my hair has been healthy all my life w/ and w/o relaxers
