Hey Texas Prepper... I remember as a kid growing up in Comanche Texas, my step dad would go just a tad deeper, maybe a 1/2" deep. But when they took root and were growing good, he'd take a water hose and spray off everything but the roots. By the time we harvested them, we'd have onions as big as softballs... dozens of them. So I know this method works like charm. We just bought two sets of 1015's yesterday and this weekend, they're going in the ground. I still need to get out and check out your place. As I told you before, my in-laws live in Murchison, none too terribly far away from you.Good luck this year!SteveComanche, Texas

Gonna try growing some this year for my first time. Can I get these in the Sherman area or if not are you aware of where I can?

I keep reading that I need to plant onions in the fall in my area (texas panhandle) to let them overwinter. I want to grow the aggie Texas sweet 1015y but I have no idea where to get them. I can find the seeds and I guess I should have started them from seed myself if I wanted a fall planting, but maybe it's too late now. Frustrating. I keep getting all this conflicting info. The scholars seem to recommend fall plantings but no place I can find sells the sets in the fall. It's confusing.

Thank you I thought that I planted mine wrong but I guess they'll do just fine... going to grab some compost though.

Brother, I'm from Oklahoma so we share some very similar weather issues. My questions are, if your only planting the roots how do you keep them standing up? Also how do you keep our constant straight line winds from blowing them around the yard, we are on the southern plains after all :)

If you pull your onions in May or June, how do you store them? I live in the northeast but don't think I could store them in my cold cellar very long throughout the summer.

I have a question about onions sets when you plant them do you plant them 1/4 inch deep then as they grow do you move the soil away from the onion so the bulb starts to develop when would you do that during the growing season please let me know I want to have perfect onions this year thanks.
