When comes to those who plan to grow strawberry plants for their first time, what advice, in regards to soil and the types of plants, would you recommend? As it is, I live in western New York, 5a or thereabouts.

Thanks for providing this information. I would like to know how you dealt with any diseases, such as leather rot, scorch, leaf spot, leaf blight ad anthracose. I am growing strawberries in full sun in a tropical climate with wet weather and hot sun. All crops get sufficient water Do you think wild strawberries with fare nay better in the climate I just mentioned. Assistance appreciates. Please note that strawberry varieties are unknown and I plant also strawberry from seeds from the the strawberries in the supermarket i.e Driscolls strawberries

Some of my strawberries are mushy and flavorless/sour. While others in a different area are sweet and flavorful. Both areas get at least 7 hours of direct sun and were given a granule fertilizer, 10-10-10. I'm just wondering if too much water or soil ph is affecting the flavor and texture?

Awesome video.. thank you for explaining the runners to me
I was keeping them attached. -
To get bigger strawberries next year I need to protect, cut runners, and snip underdeveloped berries. Thank you for the info. I wonder what kind of nutrients will encourage bigger berries as well. I'll be making tea with the leaves of the unproductive strawberries this year, and spending much time trimming and transplanting...

We're very lucky in Central CA. Frost days are few & we just use a special plant cover on those nights. So we let our berries stretch & enjoy their pretty green in winter. We cut them back when we turn the soil for spring planting. Unfortunately our warm climate & constant wind also promotes invasive weeds. This year we're allowing the runners that escaped the raised bed to grow around the outside of the beds for weed & grass control. My area is one of the worst for invasive weeds & grasses. I counted 15 varieties of weeds just in my backyard! Weeds/grass are growing thru a thick layer of landscape fabric w/2-3 in of dense, recycled rubber mulch on top! Wood mulch doesn't stop them either! So far nothing has kept the weeds & crabgrass down like the escaped strawberries have. & it's been easier controlling how they grow than controlling the 15 varieties of weeds!
