Simple but effective :) great advice!

Hi again CaliKim29! Living in Florida, we know all about heat! Lettuce is pretty tricky here too. We serious gardeners use what the farmers use, shade cloth. Using shade cloth allows both, shade and sun to get to the tender leafage and we all know, sun is a must for greens. I use a 50% shade cloth propped up on a simple frame when it gets too hot. This way, you can still plant in ground and not have to move them. The only hassle would be to take it down because it doesn't look as appealing with black shade cloth covering up the awesome greenness of the bed. Also, a good idea is to start lettuce in a seedling tray indoors or in an under covered patio. Grow On Gurl!

I will have to try this. I have been meaning to go buy some big pots. What sort of mix do you use in your pots?
Thanks for sharing. -

I have not had great luck growing spinach, lettuce is much easier for me to grow. Spinach takes a long time to germinate. I like the quick results lettuce gives. But go for it - maybe it will work better for you! Will check out your vids - thanks for watching!

just need a shady spot or cool weather and it is one of the easiest crops to grow.

One thing about arugula - the flowers are beautiful. I usually leave a few in just for the flowers and seeds and pull the rest out and plant something else. Thanks for watching!

just one afternoon of forgetting to cover my lettuce bed and it is gone. That's why I switch to pots in the heat of the summer. Thanks for watching!

Does this work for spinach too? I would much rather have that. I have also put a video of my garden on my channel titled Garden 7-15-2013 if you want to check it out. Please feel free to comment!!
