My "Bowl of Beauty" peonies are early spring bloomers in my central CA garden. Each year the number of blooms increases. This year (year 3) I had blooms for a month! FYI: Plant bare root tubers or potted nursery peonies no more than 4" deep. Just cover the eyes of a bare root or the top of the root ball of an established potted nursery/garden center plant w/thin layer of soil. If planted too deep, peonies won't ever bloom. Bare root plants often don't bloom the 1st year even when planted less than 4" deep. This is because they're spending their energy growing a healthy root system & taking in soil nutrients to help them grow. Deadhead (remove) all spent blooms & clean up all fallen foliage & petals from around the plant to avoid fungal disease (botrytis). While they need some looking after, I find my peony to be rather easy & extremely rewarding. I've not seen my variety in any neighbors' yards, so it's nice to have a unique plant the neighborhood appreciates. 😀
