"Timber!" Growing Giant Mammoth Sunflowers
Tips, Tricks
Every year I grow sunflowers. They have always been a favorite flower of mine; I don't know if it's because they get so big or because the flower is huge and brings in a lot of valued bees for pollination in the garden. No matter what, it's just fun to grow a flower that towers above everything else you are growing in your garden and the seeds are nutritious and yummy if you have toasted them in your oven with a shaking of salt.

when you take the top off the flower does it grow back and produce more seeds
-
i say you should breed mammoth sunflowers every year to get bigger and bigger sunflowers!

Does the pointed end of the sunflower shell get planted up, or do you planted the blunt end up? Thanks, I have never planted sunflowers before.

I just went out wrap my sunflower heads in some row fabric (birds are gettin' at 'em). I only took a 4 foot ladder - mistake! I'm standing on the very top of it thinking about St. Peter asking me how I got to Heaven, "I fell off a ladder..."

Very Nice video. are you located right here in florida?
-
can you reuse the trunk cut of the flower and levels and plant a climber to rap on the trunk, have you ever done that?

this year i wasnt going to grow them having had 20 and 23 foot bunch last year an unbelievable yield giant heads thousands of seeds... each year for the past 6 years they have gotten taller and taller and the stalks got as thick as 2x3s so every 7th year i give the garden a rest ...this year they grew on their own i guess seeds the birds had dropped ...nothing grew over 6/7 feet tall ...go figure
-
What do you do with the stalks? They do not seem to compost after years and was wondering if you had found a use for them. Thank you for the video.

I'm not familiar with sunflowers and was thinking about growing them around my fence but I was wondering why did you cut them down? Will they grow back by themselves or do you have to plant more seeds and is this done every year?
