The Trials and Tribulations of Gardening in KANSAS. 102 °, 4.5" of rain and HAIL in the same day.
Tips, Tricks
Sometimes the weather where I live sucks! No other way to put it. But if it was all easy, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun......ok, that's a lie. Yesterday, it was 102 degrees, so I watered the garden, because some things looked a little stressed. Then a storm came up with strong windds and hail. It rained 4.5 inches where we live, and 10 inches just north of us about 10 miles. Here is a look at the garden. Hello Jim, that's a lot of rain and hail and looking at the plants they took it well, no watering for a day or two.
😆 Happy growing,
Terry. -
the rain we had last week has flattened some of my tall flower spikes but hopefully they will produce a second batch.
-
Jim that is quite a weather event. That is one of our challenges we cannot do anything about. After seeing the sun flowers I was expecting a lot more damage. Best wishes Bob.

Crikey! That was a pretty bad storm you had,how is old"Boxcar Willie"? I find it refreshing that you and Brent are not signed up to the new religion of global warming,I am very cynical about it.Here in England we have always had odd weather and now we have more flooding due to greedy developers building on traditional flood plains, but the government cries global warming. The planet has always had periods of hotter and colder times,on the east coast you can find remnants of ancient tropical forests,a clear sign that Britain was hotter, washed up by the tides, these were here way before the industrial revolution.I despair sometimes that people are so gullible and are prepared to accept what the so called experts say without looking into it themselves. I started to read your link, but I am now going to have a cup of tea and read the rest.Take care Jane.

I had exactly the same problem yesterday (apart from the hail!) we've been forecast rain for day and nothings happened, so I watered in the early morning before it got hot, and then by late afternoon it started to rain hard, and carried on all evening and into the night.. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't bothered in the morning we wouldn't have had any rain at all!

So sorry to hear the weather has been playing havoc with your plants Jim, 102 degrees is so hot, and its crazy to think with all that heat and you get hail stones too, hail can be so damaging and act just like bullets being fired onto out soft plants, but at least there has not been much damage thank goodness,we think we are having a heatwave in Ireland if we get it as warm as 70f haha! but the weather has been crazy here in Ireland , the other day it was roasting hot and we had gone weeks without any rain ( very rare for Ireland haha) but within minutes the weather turned and we had thunder and lightening and torrential rain LOL! thanks so much for updating us on this and for sharing Jim and sending loads of love and a fresh cool breeze from right across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Friday XXXX <3

Wow, brother. That's a bunch of mess all at once. All done, it's not too bad I don't think. The heat, well, that's kicking my butt right now too. I'm at 99F as I type.
