The Mexicola Grande Avocado Tree growing in Northern California
Tips, Tricks

This is a goofy video. Keeping an Avocado tree alive means nothing. It needs to produce fruit to have value. Would not eat the leaves. Need full sun and other favorable conditions to produce fruit. I am encouraged by the post saying that in Redding fruit are being grown, but the trees are on the south side of a wall for protection in the winter. Marin County can do well with avocados as the temps usually don't go below freezing in winter, and I've seen some loaded with fruit. Where I am it gets to 20F and some winters as low as 10F, and may be futile. Planting on the south side of a wall and covering in winter might work though.

I HAVE THESE TREES AVAILABLE IN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

I tried a few Mexicola Avocados a man was selling who lived in Chico CA. They are so good - rich & oily compared with other avocados I have eaten that I no longer like the others like I used to -- to watery & flat - LOL.

I live in Citrus country in Florida and the commercial growers turn the sprinklers on when they are expecting frost. The water keeps the plants from experiencing much damage. It seems strange to wake up in the morning and see your orange tree covered in ice, but it actually insulates the tree from any more damage. Weird huh...

As I was watching this I started thinking you are a terrible neighbor. Did you ever take into consideration that it was near a fence? How long before your tree tears that fence down. Did you take into consideration how large an avocado tree can grow. Or have you never had an avocado tree or even seen a full grown one?

how is this tree doing now John?

Nice tree. I live in Redding, Ca and have two mexicola and one bacon ( type b) avocados.oldest tree in the ground 3 years, the others 2 years. Several dozen growing fruit on the oldest tree this year. I frost protected the first year and have not had to do since, they may lose a few leaves when freezing but do fine. Southern exposure, protected by a wall and fence. On a drip system! Planted 2 more mexicolas this year, have not had to paint the bark.
