Basil is one of the most popular herbs this time of year. I will show you 5 tips I have been using to grow basil successfully in two different growing zones (8b & 6b) for over 7 years. I like to grow many varieties for different dishes. Tonight I will use Siam Queen Thai Basil in Red Curry. I have already been using the Sweet Italian basil and Red Freddy with some tomato dishes.

Your lime thyme looked so pretty in it's pot. Loving all the herbs! Didn't know you could use cilantro roots! Cool! Oh what a lovely kefir lime tree! I'm growing a 'clementine' orange tree, from seed. It seriously needs to be repotted out of it's Styrofoam cup! Looking poorly it is. Poor thing. We're waiting to move so it's been on hold for now. Anyhow, thanks for the video! Been thinking I'de like some herbs at the new place.

Wow I didn't know there were so many types of basil. I need more! Especially purple basil and that perennial basil. I didn't know there was a perennial variety. Need to find some of that. I got some lemongrass seeds but haven't planted them so I'm off to watch that video next. ;)

Thank you for the update. Your herbs look fantastic. So healthy & lush. Are you going to be growing the lime trees until they are huge and bring all three trees in every year? When you asked what you do on a rainy day I said IRON. :0) I guessed wrong.

Very nice! Would be interested in an overview of the different varieties of Basil. :) I grow the common "sweet basil" but the other varieties seem interesting to try out.

You can try this stuff call tangle foot. Get a toilet paper roll or any rolled cardboard and cotton. Wrap the cotton then use the roll secure with tape and smear tangle foot on the roll. Depending on where you put usually a couple of inches from soil level this will prevent crawling insects. I use it on my fruit trees and container plants. You have to reapply every so often but it works. I lost a Meyer lemon to scale before this.

I also had issues with scale insects (mealybugs) on my lemon tree... until the mealybug destroyers found them and ate them all voraciously ;)

Too much for my little brain to absorb all at once :) I never knew cilantro grew that big. I've only seen the store bought stuff.
Cilantro is the ONLY thing I use store bought for my salsas other than tomato paste sometimes if too runny :)) Heat wave here and spraying my lettuces as soon as I get home from work to keep them cooler.
