Great information. Will you be doing gardening inside for the winter?
-
Great tip! Around mid October I empty my 1000 gallons of rain water onto trees, bushes, grapevines, strawberries, etc. Gives everything a good drink before winter and increases the odds of my plants making it through another year!
-
Interesting tip! We get a decent amount of rain/snow where we live, and I cover mulch the entire garden in the Fall to protect the soil against the wind and damaging effects of the sun. That approach seems to keep the soil nice and moist.

Good tip, Stephen!
-
Absolutely bro keep the goodies alive and kicking :)
-
I love people who just pack their leaves in bag in the Fall. Makes it easier for us to collect them ;) i also use it for mulch and composting.

I agree. Moist soil is a living soil. Dry soil is a dormant soil. Gotta keep those bacteria, fungi, worms and other soil helpers moist as much as possible. :)
-
OK, so the beneficial microbes need water. Frost won't kill them ? Will they just freeze and thaw next spring ?
-
Never thought about that one. Thanks!

Great tipi. It is so important to keep your soil moist if you want to keep the good biology in the soil.

Hey Stephen, I've read that it is just as important to water the soil, as it is the plants themselves. For this reason it seems like good practical to intensively plant out our gardens rather than have vast tracts of bare soil. I'm curious though, as to your thoughts on the chlorinated town water's effect on soil biota? Chris

I didn't know you have dry Fall seasons, here it seems to rain all the time lol
-
Nice Stephen.
Plenty of water from Mother Nature the last two days :-) -
Very good tip! Didn't think about that before Stephen :) We are at a huge advantage in Wales as our Fall is always wet so watering is not needed
-
Nature has been helping out with that the last few days lol. A very good point though ;-)
