The Basics for Growing Eggplant in Containers - The Rusted Garden 2013
Tips, Tricks
Eggplant grows well in containers. It should be managed like container tomatoes. There is one pest to keep an eye on when growing eggplant and that is the black flea beetle. diotemaceous earth...unsure of spelling but some people use it in place of seven dust because it works the same way but is more environmentally friendly.Cassandra

Hey Gary thank you for posting this video. I didn't know you can grow eggplants in container as they put out big fruits. What type of eggplants are yours? And how long did it take from seedling to harvesting?
I would appreciate if you could also tell me how may fruits on average you can get from each plant. Just to have an idea of how many i need to plant for my need.
Thank you -
Have you tried planting catnip or radishes near or with your eggplant? According to a lot of companion planting guides, they help ward off flea beetles.

I grew some eggplants that produced flowers but the fell off the plant and no fruits
were produced. I did not prune any of the six plants. What went wrong as I have new flowers but no fruits yet? Do you know? -
I have to say you are spot on with your info, I have to switch over to container gardening, much better results, I make my own compost a combo of horse and grass and leaf, I do a 50/50 mix with peat moss, plus I use a liquid fertilizer to help my plants along quicker, I get mine in powder and dissolve it in water and NPK is 10-40-50-17 is what I am doing this year, I must tell you I live in an area with a heavy canopy I get only about 4 to 5 hours of direct sun light, the potassium sulfate is keeping 90% of the bugs away keep up the good work, I might start videos next year, all of the rules change when growing with a heavy canopy over your yard.

hey i just wanted to tell you about a powder that might work for you. diatomaceous earth, food grade. You can even get organic i think if that is your thing. it dries anything out with an exoskeleton and its safe for humans. You can even use it in your home.

Hey Gary, I noticed your eggplant containers arent on your self watering wick containers. Any insights on that? Would it be advisable to just put a ittle reservoir plate under? Its more economical for me.

Thanks again for another great video Gary. I just purchase two different types of eggplant seed. Berenjena 'Shooting Stars' (from Burpee), and Berenjena Negra 'Black Beauty' (from Seeds of Change) .. Thank you as always for providing tips. This will be my 1st attempt with growing eggplant here in Florida so it's always good to know these tips for success.

Last year was my first year and for some reason I only got one fruit per plant and they didn't come until almost Fall. No idea why that was. Hoping to have better results this year. If not, I may just stop growing them, because one fruit per plant really isn't worth it. Although the ones they produced last year were huge and delicious :)

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned not having problems with bugs yet. Went out to check on the plants today and found 3 hornworms wreaking havoc on my tomato plants. Bastards!
