Hey CaliLim, great video! Thanks. It's almost 2017 and my strawberries still have a lot of green leaves on them, but no fruit. Temperatures are running between 20 degrees lo's and 70 degrees hi's(76 yesterday). Am I way too late to fertilize them now? Aren't they suppose to die out over winter? Also, this summer I used diatomacius earth to ward off slugs and lizards, it worked pretty well. We were in a drought for 3-4 months this summer so the dia earth stayed on the plants and soil pretty well. I need to rework my crate towers soon to add the watering pipes. The lower plants don't do too well. I'm going to add PVC adaptors to change the upper part of the water pipes to 1 1/2" and 2" so I don't have to stand there and water, I can go water something else and come back and add more water several times to make sure they get enough. Hope You have a Happy New Year

Wow fertilize once a week. I think I have not been using enough fertilizer.

Love the tips Kim! I'll definitely try the strawberry crates next year. They look so healthy with all the extra care you've given them.

This has been the most amazing project. I started the project 3 weeks ago and have amazing growth and my first harvest fo strawberries today... okay, it was only 3 berries... but they tasted great! The plants get full sun, and are sprouting runners which when they are at the right stage get replanted into an opening in the tower! One of the most worthwhile start to finish gardening projects I have ever done!

Thx for always showing us different organic fertilizers to use. My strawberries are in a raised bed & have been doing well thru 106-110 degree heat. I don't think they'd survive the heat in our rocky clay soil either. They seem to flourish w/blood meal, but it's a chore to work in during this heat. Good to know about these liquid alternatives. Thx for another helpful video. Wishing you a lovely new week...

do you have any advice om recycling used coffee grounds? can you use them in pots to grow seeds? love your vids
-
I love your garden/backyard. That water piece is amazing. Did you have that patio fountain area put in or did you do it yourself?
-
Kim as I watch your videos would like if you dedicate a video on how you keep your seeds. I mean what system do you use to keep your packages of seeds and saved seeds in good condition for future planting. Also for how long do you keep them.
-
hi i wanted ro know if you have a link of growing strawberries from seeds? thanks

I tried to build a tower of my own last year like this but it didn't survive the winter. I had about 36 plants and not one survived. I think it's because it got too dry and I guess I didn't fertilize enough. I have a question for you, if I can't find or don't have the funds (or nose) for those products, could I use compost tea to fertilize instead? Or would a tower system like that need more then what compost tea can supply? I'd also ask how could I could help my tower better survive the cold of winter, but I don't think southern Cali. winters are quite as cold as central New York winters!

Thanks for sharing that tip about using a plastic fork to keep the slugs off the strawberries. I have started a bed and had some very nice strawberries only the slugs got to some of them before I did. Great tip. Easy.
