However, heirloom plants have an advantage in that you can harvest and use your own seeds from your own plants and avoid all the unknowns that come with purchasing seeds (such as gmo's, chemicals, evil companies, etc). You cannot be completely self-sufficient with hybrids, but newer gardeners may appreciate learning the craft with some particularly hardy or fast-growing hybrids (for example).

Hybrid plants are crosses between different plant varieties to create new plants with special qualities. Although it's true that hybrids cannot reproduce children identical to the parent plant, we should be careful not to confuse modified seeds with hybrid seeds. Genetically modified seeds and chemically altered seeds are not the same thing as hybrids. Hybrids are perfectly healthy to eat when grown organically.

Grace to you. We have decided not to buy from companies who are altering God's design for seed to reproduce. I have learned that some companies (that sell to some name brands) are altering seed so much that they design them to where you or large farmers 'have to' buy thier chemical products to keep pests away or that eventually create a sterile seed. We are thankful for options to buy from companies that care about preserving what God intended for seed. : ) May His peace be upon you : )
