Spring Planting Update & Planting Cool Weather Crops Without Protection (4/2 - Zone 5)
Tips, Tricks
We’re now about halfway through our spring planting schedule, which started in mid-February and ends in mid-May. This year we’re direct sowing almost all of our cool weather crops directly in the garden. Today I’ll share what we’re planting this weekend, but first let’s take a quick look back at what we’ve planted so far and how everything is coming along. Well no answers on the previous comment means I won't mention singing again... lol re-watching a few of my faves from my favorite you-tube gardening crew, rainy here so repotting and trying not to eat all the tree collards.

Wow, you've got a lot planted already! How much money do you estimate you're saving by growing your own food?

This hoop house garden looks amazing... thank you for taking the time to document everything you've planted. It is truly inspiring. Great to connect with you!

One day I will actually plan a garden Lol!
Your Winter garden is a success. -
Looks like your crops in the hoop house are still doing very well. Even that dandelion LOL. I keep saying I'm going to try dandelion greens but I still haven't done it. A cold snap her it has been -9 that last two nights.

No matter what you are always a week ahead of us! lol, but you definitely inspired me ill be adding a second planting of potatoes today under a row cover, I want purple or all blues since they are my personal favorites, I'll be thinning the greens/brassicas beds next weekend , all my warm weather crops remain in the grow room under lights. Made Mark, the hubby, raise my shelves so they don't get leggy and they are @2 inches from the light right now, gonna have to repot squash and melons soon. Can't wait to see what your next vid looks like Patrick. Also, I think you have a nice mellifluous voice like a teacher-a good one! and always learn more from you, so thank you again for continuing to inspire us! I know you can play, but with that voice why don't you ever let us hear you sing?:)

You are such an inspiration Patrick!

Great video again, Patrick! What is your opinion of garden patio planters? I use them for the simple reason of the high. hail area that I live in 6 hail storms, 2 that were damaging last year! My goal this year is to make a wire screen trellis over my P.V.C. hoops in raised beds. And to increase my compost areas to meet the needs of 5 raised beds & 7 patio planters on my patios decks & my 4 bag planters for patio tomatos! Last year I got over 74 heirloom tomatoes & 8 quarts of tomato sauce(end of season) from 3 plants!:-) Thanks for reply!

The homemade vermicompost looks so rich. Always love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing!

We need to chip in a couple bucks to get you a hand seeder. They are dirt cheap and I'm amazed at how such a simple little device makes a huge difference. A couple light taps and I get exactly the number of seeds I want per spot. Also easy to load it with the entire pack of seeds and then empty the unused seed back into the packet without any hassle. Best $2 I spent on the garden this year :)
One question on your onion starts; do you "top" them off? I saw a lot of recommendations to cut the young plants in half once they are the size from your video. I tried it this year and it seems to have resulted in stockier transplants. Definitely made them easier to deal with under the lights in my set up. -
Just saw your blueberries on the map there at the end. Dont think Ive seen you talk about them before. Do you grow any other berries or fruits?

I'd say that you have a great plan working, Patrick!
