Sitting Ducks: Farming Turrets for Certs in Planetside 2
Tips, Tricks
Music: Lemon Jelly, Nice Weather for Ducks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8yx4k4tzqE) Turret farming is a simple, reliable way to generate a high experience output for a short time using the ESF. It's not flashy and it's pretty monotonous (not to mention unsportsmanlike), but if you do it right, it's a simple way to generate a high quantity of guaranteed certs. I've goten into the habit of doing this on my lunch break from work, because my laptop can't handle huge battles but does *mostly* ok flying a Scythe. Turret farming is very situational and not sustainable, because it's not easy to find isolated locations to farm or they may not be available at the moment...not to mention allied infiltrators may have flipped all the turrets you want to farm, which can be annoying and potentially get you weapon locked if you aren't careful. The best time for a turret farming run is after 3 AM or so during low server population, or about fifteen minutes after a continent has just been captured by a rival faction and everyone has moved to an area with more action. Select a high ammo, high damage primary weapon, such as the Saron Laser Cannon or the Light PPA for the Scythe, and select air-to-ground heavy weapons for your secondary. Having infrared on your weapons makes it much easier to isolate the locations of turrets that haven't been destroyed already. Your goal is to get to a facility with a lot of turrets without being noticed. This requires you to select a location far behind enemy lines where it is unlikely you'll be spotted. Amp Stations are best, although most major facilities have a variety of turrets on towers. Stay low to the ground at the edge of the map as you travel to minimize the chance of being seen by an enemy air vehicle. Once you have arrived, level out so you don't waste ammo, and continue to stay low to the ground so you minimize the risk of being noticed. On a number of occasions, I had a Mosquito fly right overhead without realizing I was there--keeping your volume maxed out and holding fire when you hear other ESF engines helps you keep a low profile. Two shots with Dual Photon Pods and a full clip of the Saron Laser Cannon is enough to take out one turret. With my current upgrades, I have enough ammo to destroy 14 turrets with a single run. Without any boosts, this is 5.6 certs, and the run in this video took me just under 7 minutes. Over double XP weekend and using premium bonus plus a boost, I earned over 200 certs in an hour (visible at the end of the video). I have absolutely no doubt that if this video gets attention, turret farming will be highly saturated and/or nerfed by SOE. That's okay with me--it's basically an unintended use of game mechanics anyway. I've abused it enough.

You have not shamed vanu, you have shamed yourself.
-
That is a bit dull, isn't it? And you do get Certs way faster in battle....
-
lol, what?
-
I do the same thing, but only as a prelude to my outfit attacking an area.
-
psh i do this at the crown
-
Like 20 certs from that...they should fix the cert gain before they fix this...
-
no it shouldn't be nerfed by SOE just because people are doing this. It returns Certs to the other teams engineers to repair the turrets so...
-
This is how I practice flying during non peak hours.
-
I do exactly the same thing ;D

Hah, well enemies have to repair 'em if you take the time to bust 'em all! I'll have to try this... Great track btw!
