Seed Starting and Germinating Lavender & Rosemary: Start Really Early! - TRG 2015
Tips, Tricks
Lavender and Rosemary can take 14-28 days to germinate. They are slow to germinate and grow indoors. Once germinated they can take 10-12 weeks to get to a decent transplant size. You can start lavender and rosemary indoors 3-4 months before they are ready to go out into your garden. Check out my vegetable gardening blog: The Rusted Garden. is it okay to plant lavender in tissue paper ? ? thanksfor the video :)

You can speed up germination and growth by soaking them for about 24hrs in a solution of Gibberelic Acid of 500 to 1000PPM. GA is a naturally occurring plant growth hormone which is sold as a white powder. You can cut down time to about 30%-40% when you use GA.

hey thanks for the video i enjoyed it
actually my lavender and thyme germinated after 4 days only which was a surprise but again I live in Egypt so may be that's why? the rosemary still nothing yet but problem is always growing stuff and then they die too fast don't know whether it's too much or too little water but i use a sprinkler and water everyday cuz it gets dry fast here is that right ? -
Thank you for sharing...you've answered question I've been wanting to know.

Thanks Gary! I had a problem with starting lavender last year by planting them too deep. Nice tip. I'm going to start ours in soil blocks. Do you use them? I did a video on how to make them at our channel.
I want to border the garden with lavender for pollinators and our bees, though the bees usually head farther away and seem to pay little attention to the plants close by. -
My lavender seeds germinated in 2 wks..however they are beyond tiny :)

Great tips Gary, love your videos, i have learned alot from you, thank you.. have a great 2015, all the best from Scotland.

Gary It is easier to grow lavender and Rosemary from cuttings and there is no need to grow from seeds every year (and much quicker), and this is recommended once your lavender and rosemary plant become too woody and straggly . All you need to do is take a soft cutting of a stalk that has no flowers on it, put it in a good potting mix (you can use a rooting hormone) cover with a bag, put in a cold frame and wait a few weeks until it has rooted than plant in the garden. This is the easiest way to propagate these plants.

I want to try Lavender. I have Rosemary inside. I propagated some and put outside but the puppies got to them :( and they were growing well. I want to make sure to fence my garden up well.

Good tips. Thanks.

My rosemary seeds I planted last spring didn't sprout until I brought the cell packs into the house a month ago. I couldn't believe what I was seeing!. I thought they just died. Now I have a couple of dozen rosemary sprouts from last years seed. Go figure.
