These are some simple tips that anyone can use when growing tomato seedlings/plants. Most of the ideas I give you can be used for any plants not just tomatoes. Whether you're growing flowers, veggies, or houseplants, giving them the best start you can as seedlings will help ensure healthy, productive plants. A gardener's dream! Remember, no matter how strong and healthy your tomato plants are they will not live through a frost so, be sure to check for your area's last frost date and plant accordingly. Tomatoes like warm, sunny weather and warm soil, too. In most areas, if you plant before the night time temps are consistently above 50 degrees, the tomatoes won't grow. They'll wait until it's warmer. As for companion planting, basil and tomato compliment each other well not only in cooking, but in the garden as well! Marigolds planted near tomatoes are not only pretty, but help to keep pests away, too. Tomatoes also need a good amount of water. Water deeply once or twice a week once planted in the ground if you don't get an inch or more of rain. Watering more frequently with less water encourages cracking in your tomatoes. Also, adding epsom salt and finely crushed egg shells at planting time will help to keep plants healthy and stave off blossom end rot. A tablespoon or so of each worked into the soil in the hole before planting should be good enough. Happy gardening!! Please don't forget to comment & subscribe!!
