In north western Canada I planted garlic and pulled one out the next spring, the bulb was very small. I left the rest in the ground another season and harvested one again and the bulbs were larger, so I left them in the ground again. This, the third year, bulbs were large but only 2 or 3 per plant and no splitting of skins. I pulled them all up this year and will plant the largest of the bulbs and use the smaller ones to cook with. These are the Porcelain variety and I am happy with the variety and what we harvested. Fertilizer was from the chicken coop each year added as a topping to a bed of composted cow manure the cloves were planted in. Hay was spread on top about 3" thick as we have cold winters up here. It works, but it's not perfect, lol. All the best.

LOL "why not do it like it says to do it", that was cute :) I know I"m a little late but I'll go ahead and plant some garlic tomorrow and see if it'll overwinter and will grow in the spring like I've seen in another video. I will document it and if it all works out (fingers crossed), I will post my first video :) Happy Gardening, everyone!
