These beans can make some people really sick when they're eaten raw. I became violently ill when I consumed some some large ones raw so I looked up potentially negative side effects. I've seen videos and read blogs were people discuss eating them raw with no issues. Others have had the same reaction I did. I would tread carefully on eating these uncooked.

Hi John, I'm glad that you share Scarlet Runner Beans seeds. Can I have some seeds from you? I'd like to grow them and share these seeds with my friends and neighbors. How can I get them? Thank you!

I'm looking for quick-to-harvest carrots. I haven't had luck growing carrots (I have tried 4-5 different varieties). Maybe Little Finger carrots and/or Parisienne (also called Paris Market) carrots.

i have grown these several times - but i prefer the varieties that give bigger yields - scarlets dont , also they are very long and thin ...

My favorite bean. The flowers, small pods and dry beans are edible. To me, the black ones taste like black beans, just 20 times the size. Bees and hummingbirds love the beautiful red flowers. This year I got white cannellini runners as well, with beautiful white flowers. Perfect beans to cook with escarole.

These beans are really ornamental. The pods are large coming from large red flowers. They don't really taste that good though. They look better than they taste. I found growing Scarlet runner beans a waste for food. I recommend people stick to normal beans or peas for taste. Lima beans taste better and Scarlet runner beans taste a little like a Lima bean. Scarlet runner beans also cause gastrointestinal discomfort in the form of gas. Lima beans do not cause this discomfort. Both bush and pole (vine) cultivars exist. There is no bush scarlet
