Great tips... thank you! I also wanted to suggest to use your coffee grounds (if you drink coffee) mixed with soil spread out around your rhodie. In addition, I water mine with the runoff from my water alkalizer; 4.5 pH. It loves it! I wish I could share a picture here with you. When I bought it was just a little 3 spike on sale for $5. My rhodie is at least 20 times that size two years later; very dark green, thick leaves... Which is amazing considering where I planted it; south facing the sun most of the day... Could be the reason it hasn't bloomed yet though.

Help Needed. Hi I bought two baby azaleas and plants 2 rhododendron last year in July in my garden along with other plants. I live in Zone 5. I have also fertilized them using using a multi purpose slow release fertilizer. NOW since i never knew they have to be planted in acidic soil and spring in due. What should I do?? Should I wait for the plants to bloom and then make the soil acidic? or just do it right away when the snow clears and last frost is gone? Would the acidic soil ruin plants around them? Or is is wise to move them all in one flower bed and make the bed acidic?

Thanks for the tree root tips, did not know that.Pine needle mulch works best and neighbors love to get rid of their yard Pine needles.Plus a very cheap acid fix,use 50% white vinegar and 50% water mix a few times a year. Our plants was looking like sticks with a few leaves. Then the guy down the street told us about this mix.We did this mix every month last year till the ground froze, this year we have Rhododendrons and Azaleas that look like new plants.Even see a few flowers coming on.
