The UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that forty million tons of aquatic food will be needed to feed the world's population in 2030. Uganda accounts for close to 30,000 tons of fish, a drop in the ocean of the European Union's annual requirement of 600,000 metric tons. Because of a decline in fish stocks, the east African country is now encouraging fishermen to farm fish using cages rather than rely on capture fisheries.
