What about treating with boiled linseed oil?

can i use bricks for raised beds?
-
Thank You. Sir, I am looking forward to plant an apple tree in a raised bed. The water table is quite near the soil surface, at my plantation site, a couple of feet down. I have mostly clay soil and it gets moist and wet when I dig deeper in to the ground.I would not be using a anti weed sheet, as I would want the roots of the trees to go into the soil under the raised beds, may be a feet down or more. Please give me some tips and advise.

I've been using raise beds for the last 5 yrs only cause i wanted to try something new and I got the lumber for free from some old pine and fir crates, and they are doing just fine.

Don't mess with the chicken, "she will clean your clock!" LOL I thought linseed oil was made from the flax plant. Am I mistaken?

what about using metal roofing as raised garden beds? Will the roofing hurt our veggies and in turn hurt us?

i heard that if you take a bucket full of sand and motor oil that it was good to store your tools in it ... haven't tried it but sounds like a good tip

Thanks again Ray , don't worry about your interruptions , i love it , make your videos more interesting and not boring :)

Heartily thanks for all the rich advise Ray! Unfortunately in my area wood is just too expensive, what about cementing raised beds? Also would the roots be able to penetrate a pure sand surface underneath or should I plow the sand first before putting my raised beds? Foolish beginner's ignorance I know... :D

Great video---like it!
I got my lumber for my raised beds from Lowes---and I do not know if it is treated or not. I don't think it is because this was from a sort of scrap pile.
The one thing I am doing with it though is painting the "outside"---that side away from the plants---just so my raised beds will look a bit pretty (they will be sitting on the ground and surrounded with red mulch! It's a ploy to get my wife (who is not a garden person--even though I admit that she cooks what I grow very well) out in the garden---since last year (2015) the garden was kind of scruffy and was not very pretty. -
I've had straw over winter in the chicken run that I'm considering using for mulch this growing year...good or bad idea in your opinion? I'm sure it's been richly fertilized but not like the coop area...

Ray, this is the second video I've watched of yours. Just wanted to appreciate you for your knowledge and willingness to share. Thank you!

By the way, it would be a good idea if you had a vermicomposter, that way you could have earthworm humus and could feed your hens with a treat from time to time (proteins!). I wish I could have one of those for the vegetal waste.
