Pruning Rhododendron and Azaleas
Tips, Tricks
The time to prune Rhododendron and Azaleas is immediately after flowering so you don't remove any flower buds for next year. When you prune, be sure to prune back to a growing point to maintain a healthy shrub.

My Rhododendrons are 6-8 ft. tall. All green is at the top of the branches, and the bottoms are bare of leaves. How far can I cut them back and will this force leaves on the lower bare main branches??

I looked up azalea pruning tips on various websites and watched other videos. I don't know why I didn't just come to UI first! Thank you. This is the most informative for novices and wannabe gardeners.

These were a lifesaver for very fine pruning. I was tempted to use a decent pair of scissors for what I need to do, but the spring action definitely made life easier for monotonous and continuous pruning. Very high precision machining of the blades and they've stayed very sharp. here is the link to it in case anyone is interested: amzn.to\13y2TbA

Yes .. thank you. I thought you were never to prune these plants. Do you know whether I can use orange peelings as mulch?
