I love perennial flowers http://www.youtube.com/user/headgardener2u/ but one of the problems with Helebore or Christmas rose in cold climates is the belief they are evergreen in all areas. I've written about this plant here http://www.doug-greens-perennials.com/christmas-rose.html but pruning it is easy if you understand the leaves aren't going to make the winter. I prune them off the last thing in the fall, well after frost but before any snow arrives. In the spring, the new flowers and leaves pop up, unhindered and in perfect sight in my perennial cottage garden. If I hadn't pruned them in the fal, I would have to prune them in the spring.
