This happened to me lots :( and I still manage to pull up at least one plant when I clean it out now after about 6 months (which is a nightmare because now theyre all attched to each other). I think you just have to keep pushing it back down

Good! My bf told me i could just treat it like a grass and cut it as I like. Now i'v done it the tops look a funny shape so thought maybe i shouldve left it :S

Why do you trim the roots? Aren't they too short now?
-
I tried planting this in my tank today with my fluval big giant tweezer things and it kept floating up. I eventually used my finger to press it into the gravel and later today it was up and float again. Is there a way to weight them down somehow?
-
It's not a problem to not trim the roots- they will still grow well. Trimming simply stimulates new growth for a short period which helps a plant get started in the substrate.
-
Do you have to trim the roots? I just planted mine today and left the roots how they were - really long.

@XXGOLDENXXDRAGONXX No, eurasianchica is right - valis dry out very quickly when they are out of water, so it is important to plant them into a tank that has enough water in for the whole valis to be resting on the water. So the aquarium does not have to be full when you plant them. It is easier to plant into the aquarium if it has just a few inches of water in it. Also, when preparing them you can spray them with water from time to time to stop them drying out.
