Premature Buds: When's the best time to harvest ?
Tips, Tricks
http://cannabisincanada.net In this video Jason covers a patient garden where the plants are premature at the time of Harvest. Floral formation is key to understanding harvest time in any given Strain of cannabis. Predisposed in the plant’s DNA is the calyxes (pre-flowers) appear as individual, small green leaf coats surrounding an ovule at the stem/stock with a pair of thin white, yellowish green, or purple pistils attached to the ovule and extending out from the calyx. As the calyxes begin to age and mature, they grow and form more pistils, increase resin production, and the calyxes swell while floral production reaches its peak, at which point we turn to the microscope for final confirmation. From this point on, the pistils begin to swell only slightly. Often pistils, when mature, will turn brown, red, or orange. The glandular trichome’s of the cannabis plant are in full spectrum during this transitional juncture of the plants life cycle. Under the microscope one can see these molecular changes as the color of the glandular trichomes change from clear, to milky, to amber, and observe glandular trichomes start curling to the side. Others will have the heads fall off as they finish their cycle. The swelling, size, and colour off the glandular trichomes help growers determine optimal harvest time. All this is proof of full flower maturation, scientifically confirming the flower has expended and reached its peak production levels predisposed in the DNA of the genotype. - See more at: http://cannabisincanada.ca/blog/cannabis-floral-process-and-plant-manipulation/#sthash.n8sWKl8D.dpuf Find CinC photos on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cannabisincanada/ Cannabis in Canada’s Google+ page: https://plus.google.com/+Jason0930 LinkedIn: http://ca.linkedin.com/pub/jason-wilcox/2b/3ab/794 Like our CinC Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cannabis-In-Canada/1398043700476103 Follow CinC Society on Twitter: https://twitter.com/CinC_Society Stay updated on the ongoing legal battle against the Canadian Federal Government HERE: http://mmarcoalitionagainstrepeal.com/ And don’t forget to join the Cannabis in Canada mailing list and receive our monthly newsletter: http://cannabisincanada.net

After my first grow, I realize that other farmers are either impatient or overthink things way too much. It's so easy....

Okay quick question. This is my first grow outdoors. No idea the strain, I just germinated a seed I had and hoped for the best. Luckily for me it turned out female. I just did this as a little experiment since it was getting late into the season for a full grow op. Anyways my baby is producing some phenomenal looking, smelling buds. The hairs are half and half. Half white, half orange but my question is this. In the past week we have had two frost advisories. The first one I put my plant in the shed to help keep it out of the cold but last night I fell asleep early and forgot to bring my plant inside. Upon investigation of my baby, all seems well. No signs of death or anything of that sort but 90% of her leaves are yellow. They have been for quite some time now, I know I have a deficiency of some sort but like I said this was an experiment and I didn't really have the finances to go buy some sort of nutrients to combat the deficiency so it's just been doing its thing. Now should I harvest or just rough it out and see what happens? It's two weeks into October. It's been flowering for id say about a little more than a month now, give or take a week. I didn't keep track of anything, but if anyone could give me any insight on this that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Damn i hate the fact i'm groing outside in a cold and wet climate, in will be forced to harvest later this week because next week all there is going to be is rain and temperatures below 5* celcius. One of my plants has been flowering for 6 weeks now and the other ones for 5,5 weeks. The one of 6 weeks is a cheese strain of which is being said to have a flowering time of 8 weeks. The buds are quite big in must say, bud if i had the option of flowering until the end (9-10) weeks this would have been a plant which would yeald over a kilo! It's so sad..

Nothing more frustrating then a grower without patience! Let it tell u when its done! 10 weeks or none!
-
mine are at 9 weeks, look about this weight but I am hoping they will frost up abit in the next week
-
i have a plant that has pistols that are brown on the top cola , on the bottom and middle mostly white pistols? do you think shes ready to harvest?
-
I'm am a near beginning pot grow 15 years smoking it just a quick fire round and I know I'm on YouTube asking this if ur flower plant is near a month looking till it's ready manicuring will it make the flower go from female to male and if u sold out and have these plants sitting there would u be able to pick early and still feel the same high
-
Thx bro this help me a lot to realize that just because I reached 2-3 months of flower and the plant ain't ready I shouldn't cut it just because it's time. Thx
-
Man, they would be lucky to get high off that immature stuff, to think they went to that trouble and then screw themselves the harvest, wow. Tose are weak, if that were my harvest, I'd look for a new hobby. I wish I could post some buds, I would show ya how it is supposed to be, DONKEY DICKS DUDE.
-
WOW...they got weeks left man! It's a shame to not let it finish, should have jst let it go the distance & it =lots better....quality & quantity of weed. ✌🏼️ guyz

8 to 10 weeks look for amber on tricombs not shure if all the amber should be there like 80% milky and 20%amber??

Many cannabis growers don't realizing they are actually harvesting their buds too early, dramatically reducing yields and potency!
There is a 2-3 week period during the flowering stage when plants are "mature" and buds are at the highest levels of THC. At this point, the tiny resin glands (trichomes) on the buds have turned milky white, and most of the white hairs (pistils) on the buds have darkened and curled in.
Highest Level of THC When...
Most white pistils have darkened and curled in (bud looks more "solid")
Most clear trichomes (looks like glass) have turned white (looks like white plastic)
If you harvest earlier than this, the plant hasn't reached its full potential. Sometimes early-harvested buds can produce a "speedy" effects, or give some people headaches (curing will help with this) so avoid harvesting early if you can!
Is it ready yet?
-SpruceZeus's take on marijuana ripeness.
I'm personally of the opinion that 90% of growers harvest too early. By letting the plants go a little longer you're ensuring that the've plumped as much as they're going to.
Despite popular opinion to the contrary(and don't fool yourself, the jury is still out on this one) Recent studies have shown ;contrary to what was previously believed, that THC itself (And its predecessor THC-A) are quite guilty of causing the confusion and drowsiness associated with burnout and other cannabinoids (our friend CBN, and a handful of others) to be the catalyst (along with THC) to being 'high' rather than 'baked'
Regardless, whether or not theres any substance to the aforementioned study, its easy to get the high you want.
If you want a soaring 'cerebral' high: Get yourself a tropical sativa that contains a high level of THC-V and grow it until it is ripe.
If you want the narcotic couchlock stone, grow a rugged indica until its ripe.
Notice a pattern of growing it until its ripe? Its a really good rule to live by.
OF course we have to remember that there is more to a good high than just THC. At last count there are at least 66 cannabinoids, and we don't know what most of them do.
Now alot of people will tell you that you should harvest based on the colour of your trichomes. But (again, in my opinion) that is far too simplistic and there are too many variables to make that an effective strategy. I've made that point a million times before and i'm not going to re-hash it here,(maybe just a bit) but rest assured there is more than just trich colour.
A ripe marijuana plant will be filled in, will have an amber tinge to the buds.
The pistils should have browned (or orange-d) off and receded into the buds.
The seed bracts should be swollen and
the trichomes should be sticking straight out with bulbous ends.
Also, because you're coming close to the end of plant's life cycle,
the leaves should have yellowed off and started to die.
Another very important reason to let your plants mature is Terpenoid production. Terpenes are responsible for alot of the complex (And enjoyable) flavours that cannabis produces. Some of the most intense flavours are produced on the "downslope" of cannabis's life cycle. My personal experience with this first came when i was growing GH cheese. One of the plants i harvested at 8 weeks and it tasted pretty nice and had pretty dense buds. The other i grew until about 9 1/2 weeks and it had most amazing, sour, skunky, delicious taste with rock hard buds.
the pistils should have receded back into the bud before you chop. Regardless of trichome colour.
If I could offer one piece of advice on picking the right time to harvest, it's all about watching the pistils. Not so much the colour, but the movement. They should have receded into the bud and the bracts should be swollen.
