Thanks, Becky, for all your videos. You're so cute to watch and listen to, and best of all your info is very useful. I first found your canning videos, and now that we have chickens, we are watching those videos. (I esp. like the one where you cook up your home-grown potatoes & eggs!) We are up north in the high plains so have to modify our coop a bit to be able to handle the cold winters, but chickens are chickens no matter where they live!

I plant one green and one yellow every spring, I grow them from seed. They do seem to love light soil. I love zucchini, or courgettes as we call them, sliced, steamed and lightly fried in garlic & butter. I planted them with green and yellow scallopini - they all got away from me and I had yellow marrows (okay stuffed with minced or spicy rice) or scallopini as big as dinner plates - microwaved whole & smashed, the chooks loved them!! I haven't successfully frozen corvettes, but I have as part of spaghetti sauce.
Great videos Becky, I love them all. Even ordered your Zote soap on Amazon to try washing soap following your recipe. Great stuff, smells wonderful. Will use Sunlight soap in future, as our equivalent. Inspired to make soap too. All very satisfying and saves ALOT of money. To spend on shoes..... -
Thanks for sharing Becky I love your homestead videoes! :)

you want air around them so they can breath, they can drowned. if you have it in straight water it wont. since there is air able to get to the roots.

Hello Becky,
I have a question for you and all your friends here. For several years now I have tried to get a garden in. The first few went badly because one of our dogs decided that wherever I dug was his new ( watering hole ) so to speak. This year I walled off the area so the dogs could not get in. I put in about 10 inches of new topsoil. The starters were going GREAT. Got everything planted and was doing wonderful. Only to discover 3 weeks later a skunk had dug under and was eating everything.( What can I do to keep such a pest away without hurting it? The only traps I can find are for killing it and I dont like that idea. If anyone can help with keeping pests like this out without hurting them I would be grateful.
P.S. A few days after the skunk I fould a big old tom cat in there fighting with another male. Both are strays I think.
I just dont like the idea of hurting these animals to save my plants.
Thanks, Julia -
Glad to see another video :) Would love to see a video about how far you have to go for groceries, what the average cost is for their zucchinis versus your fresh garden zucchinis and maybe other veggies that you have had success with in the past. We also loved your potato video.

Nice tip about the sandy soil. Thanks.

Time for some grilled zucs with some salt, pepper, olive oil, garlic powder and some cajun seasoning. :-)

this video was too late, my zucchini bit the dust. I was crying for help and she was a beautiful plant but I did it wrong.. I guess zucchini does not do good in a pot garden. next year I'll plant like you showed. I sure hope I get cucumbers, they are in the ground and pots too. thanks for sharing

These do make some Great Mock Apple Pies too.

Two giant zucchini plants in my yard are doing very well. I put them in salads and mix in with tomato sauce. But the best thing is slicing them thin drizzled with olive oil and salt and baked till crispy like a potato chip

If you were to get a load of chipped branches and leaves from a local tree trimming company and lay them down thick around the zuchini plants, I bet they would love it. Iv'e heard that zuchini plants thrive off of decaying wood/leaf mulch. We have some friends here is south florida who grew massive ones using this method.
