Planting Rhubarb in my Perennial Garden
Tips, Tricks
I did forget to mention that Rhubarb is very tart and you have to mix some kind of sweetener with it, unless you like very tart fruit. I use Stevia myself because I don't want to use sugar. Also, when harvesting Rhubarb, don't take all of the stalks off or your Rhubarb plant my die, I had one do that myself and I was very upset. Golly. I love rhubarb but never have any these days. When I was little and goods like milk, veg, bread, coal etc was delivered by a horse drawn cart ( there were no cars/lorries) and my dad grew all his own fruit and veg, we used to give the delivery horse a crust of bread in the hope that it would drop it's poo and we as kids would shovel it up and my dad put the poo around the growing rhubarb. By goolly it tasted superb. My dad grew a great variety of veg as it was hard to come by during the war. Us kids never wanted for anything. June and I grow nothing as our garden is very small. Thats why I enjoy your video so much. Thank you

I've spent a lifetime of gardening totally void of the Rhubarb. My wife's favorite- (pie that is). Maybe if I grew it she'd back my obsession with gardening? 😊 Is there a variety you can recommend?

It will work well for you. Now there will be Rhubarb Crumble Galore in Kim's house. Hope you are enjoying yourself. Regards. Patrick

I'm sorry everyone, I have had a little trouble getting this video out and deleted the part that tells how to cook it! Cut your rhubarb stalks up into 1/4 to 1/2 inch sections, cook it in water to cover until it is tender, make sure to add sugar or a sweetener to taste as some rhubarb is tarter than others. Drain your rhubarb, then freeze it until use or make jam, a pie or put it over your ice cream. Rhubarb is really good and I'm sure you'll like it too.

Glad you are feeling better. Summer colds are hard to shake sometimes. MMMM Rhubarb pie is fantastic. To me it tastes just like strawberry pie. Your garden looks great, and thank you for the video. :)

Hope it grows well for you, Kim. It did well for me here in, Florida.

You eat it raw or cooked?

Rhubarb has got lots of oxalic acid in it so it is recommended that you drink some milk along with it. The calcium in the milk precipitates out the oxalic acid as calcium oxalate... just put a drop of milk on some rhubarb crumble and you will see what I mean.
