Seeds are treated to control disease, especially when planted early in cool soil. GMO seeds haven’t made it to the home garden yet…..Donald

Are your seeds ( corn and onion so far that I have seen) brightly colored because they are gmo or is there another reason?

Because I had 3/4 PVC handy I used it. I also have a 4 ft. piece like yours to plant with......Donald

Donald, thanks for the videos, helpful plus fun to watch. I noticed when you planted the onion seed, it looked like you had a handmade tool for your small seeds. Is that 1/2" pvc that you have cut? I've made one very similar, works well for small seeds. I also use 1/2" pvc to plant my beans. I have the rows roped off, dug a small trench, then use a 4 foot piece of pvc, put the seeds in one end, gravity takes them to the earth. This keeps me from bending over with my bad knees.

It means “don’t let go” but it can mean “don’t give up”, “hand in there”…..Donald

Hey Donald, I'm a new viewer, sure do enjoy your "know-how", I think you straightened that row out really well, looks great! I only have a large backyard to garden in these days, sure miss living in the country and having a water well. I'm in West Texas and we are short on water around here, makes it hard to grow anything but going to be watering as smart as I can... I'm waiting to be approved on your website forum, like what I read there too! Thanks so much for your advice and tips..Dolores

"don't let go", "hang in there", "don't give up"

What do you say at the end of every video?

There are long day varieties for planting up north and short day varieties for planting in the south. Make sure you’re buying the right ones for your area. “Candy” onions are neutral day onions and can be planted anywhere……Donald

I planted my onions by hand. Unfortunately, I don't have a big tractor, just two hand working female hands. Anyway---here it is August in Tennessee and all I have are dead plants and onions that are about the size of marbles and hard as rocks. Any suggestions? Sure glad I don't have to rely on them this year to survive. Please help! I planted the big yellow ones. Can't remember the name.

If I could only have one tool it would be a PTO Tiller. Best tool I ever bought for the garden. Next would be a Middle Buster, Row Hippers and a set of Rolling Cultivators. A planter would be nice but not 100% necessary. With those tools you could plant any size garden from small to XXXL…..Donald

Since lots of folks don’t have seeders/planters I try to show how to plant by hand. I do have a Covington planter for the tractor and a walk behind EarthWay. Not many planters can handle small seeds well. I’m in the process of testing the new Hoss Planter for both large and small seeds……Donald

Seems like lots of work. Why not invest in a seeder for the tractor? Just wondering.. Looking good though. Those red or white onions?

Mine didn’t get blown down but all this rain isn’t doing em much good. Onions are pretty tough so I don’t think being blown down will be too much of a problem. I’ve dropped some transplants on top the ground while planting, the roots dug in and they kept growing…….Donald

I've been enjoying your videos, especially the ones about onions. Like me (on the Mississippi Gulf Coast) you must have been hit pretty hard by that storm system that went through last week and I was wondering if your onions got blown down like mine did and are they standing back up now? Mine looked bad but are now standing back up and looking pretty good.

@mrsmagandelatour ... No I don't......Donald

hi i was wondering if you plant wheat?
-
@swsebrownsugar1888 … Let em get a little size to em (about 10-12 inches tall) then you can side dress with a little fertilizer…..Donald
-
@jude1c9v ... Try planting seedlings instead of the bulbs. You'll also need to plant the right type of onion for your area. Lots of folks order theirs from Dixondale Farms in TX.......Donald
