I've had a lot of success using window type planters placed on the ground for growing both cucumbers and beans as well.

I've read other comments about cross-pollination when spreading seeds in 2 separate rows, with small trellis's. That concern was my first thought. I'm doing a trellis for cucumbers for the first time this year (also for zucchini).I'm using tall tomato cages. I buy plants. I placed 2 plants under the cage. I'm hoping it works, if it does I will do more next year :)

I liked the last setup for the cucumbers. nice!

Thanks for the informative video. The tips and tricks were very helpful and it was simple and to the point. This will be my first year growing cucumber as well as yellow squash. Have a great weekend.

I see you just put your seeds in a row..what about the other method in a mound?? We are starting our seeds right now, but last year we had no cucumbers..or i should say very little..not sure why. What a great idea for the trellis. I have in fact some of those baby crib sides and used them once for my peas..but i love love this idea!! Thank you

Do you have a problem with cross fertilization of different cucumber types? I planted my cukes near some pumpkin a few years back and wound up with cucpumpkins, or if you prefer pumpkumbers.

Really helpful ideas! Thanks I will try the double row planting!

Very timely Joey! I am planting my cucumbers this weekend. Have a great day!

The baby crib climber is an excellent idea! Especially that so many cribs were recalled! I picked up free or close to free cribs and cut them up to make gates throughout my house to keep my 2 large dogs contained to certain rooms when necessary. Now, I can watch for more cribs and use your idea in my garden! Thanks for sharing your creativity! I'll credit you in my photos.

Great idea with the crib rails. Down here where I am in the south they would over grow it quick but still a great idea. I always run into trouble thinning anything, feels so wrong. Every sprout is precious to me because as soon as I reach to pluck it I start subtracting fruit from my harvest hopes. I should have suckered the first few feet of my cucumbers but just couldn't bear to subtract so many potential fruits but now my first tier of trellis is badly overgrown.

I think a lot of us are planting late in wisconsin here. I am hoping because we are getting a late start that fall will hold off yay lol
-
Not a problem these were planted of the June 15 last Saturday no not to late they will take about 70 days to grow and bear fruit
-
yes they will cross pollinate but it will not effect the cukes but it will the seeds if we was to save them for next year they would be a cross cuke but like any vegetable the fruit will grow find the change will be in the seeds is where that cross will change the way the next yrs grow if seeds are saved
