planting and growing tobacco in the garden 3
Tips, Tricks
http://bit.ly/hlaj7G How to grow tobacco in your garden is a diary of growing tobacco plants over a year. Starting in February the seeds were planted indoors and grown in a single seed tray. They were placed in the sun in a little compost and apart from watering to keep the soil a little damp they were largely ignored. Now at the beginning of April with the frosts over and the longer days returned its time to plant them in the garden. You will be fine growing there. Tobacco is a surprisingly hardy plant and as long as you give it enough time to grow you will have good luck.

Are the summers in Buffalo,NY sufficient for this? Right by great lake erie so it should be humid and it can get in the 90s usually.

@reballare You wont get a lot of tobacco from 6 - 8 plants, enough for small block perhaps. You will need to cure it as well which also takes time. It's possible to grow enough tobacco for yourself though. I grow it because I like gardening.

@thebigworldvideo Do you smoke the tobacco once its grown? How much tobacco can be harvested from 6-8 plants? I was going to try this but I dont know if the amount of tobacco Ill cultivate from so few plants will be worth my time.

If the frosts have finished you can plant them outside. This year the only problem I've had is with snails and slugs feasting on the lower leaves. I only plant 6 - 8 plants out on average a year so as yet theres not much more to see of the plants than what's on the video.
