Planting And Growing Grass Seed - Step by Step
Tips, Tricks
Growing grass seed is a simple process. In this vid, I show you all the steps to planting grass seed at a home in Joliet, IL. Here we have almost bare ground on a small section of the front lawn. Here is the old, horrible growing grass seed video I did a few years ago (in case you want to suffer ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n8KHNk9JG0

Hey LNC love your videos and I had a question. I followed the instructions in this video on a small piece of yard around my flag pole and so far I'm getting really good results however I did seed two weeks ago Sunday Oct , 15. it's coming in good its about two inches tall do you think it will continue to grow enough to make it through winter? I live in northeast Tennessee and I planted a turf type tall fescue blend and I'm hoping it will last through winter. Also I have about 3 acres to mow so its not easily watered and i want to get the rest of my lawn looking much better. It's not all weeds but there are a lot of them especially wide bladed grasses. I plan on starting to rehab in early spring but don't have an irrigation system just a impact sprinkler. if i put down scotts water smart seed would the spring rains be enough to get it to germinate? i know this is long but i would really appreciate your opinion, thanks.

Did you work for some lawn company becuase you really know what your doing lol

I've been following all your steps and my once dirt lawn is coming along beautifully. I've got 2 trouble spots from water runoff where the yard slopes. ? should the peat moss and scotts patch work? Also I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and it gets HOT! Should I wait for cooler temps in the low 80s before I try this? Thanks in advance and thanks for your vids. Great info, and fun to watch. Keep em coming

When preparing the seed bed he doesn't bother removing many obvious stones laying on top of the soil.

What do you do about birds and such going after your seed?
-
Looks like you inspired the people across the street too!

I read that more grass seed is not necessarily better since they compete with each other for water and nutrients.
Also why not use a spreader for your grass seed? -
is it me or did he go through the steps twice?
-
should I plant my hedge row before or after installing new seed lawn?
-
Do you have a video about filling in shallow spots in the lawn? Should I just add soil to grade and seed on top then peat moss per the video or should I gradually fill in with top soil and the grass will grow through it?

Allyn - any recommended grass type for Illinois backyard in full direct sun?

Grass seed isn't exactly cheap, it costs over $40 for a 10 pound bag in Canada. Grass seed is still cheaper than sod, but it isn't dirt cheap.

Hello, it's almost 3 weeks since I have seeded my new lawn now i start to see a lot of young broad leaf grass coming out. I am guessing it's crabgrass. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them?
-
So I should be doing massive amounts of work but I can't stop thinking about my lawn and how semi-crappy it looks which is why i'm watching your awesome, informative, easy to follow video instead. I have a question that i'm hoping you can answer....
As I'm approaching June, I managed to kill some weed areas on my lawn. I got two more patches that i need to treat/kill. My question is, should i even bother killing them, now that we are in the month of June? Would it even be possible to grow grass on the spots I treated with the temps on the rise? I live in CT so temps are preparing to get warmer. Should I just wait until September when temps get cooler? My wife may divorce me (jokingly of course...i think) if I complain or stare at my lawn anymore.
Just wondering if i should hold off and deal with the little green i have even if that means keeping the weeds there for their green color and working on it once temps drop. -
Great Video. Thank you

Though I realize this is probably 100 videos ago for you, I'd love to get an update. Wondering if it required a second seeding. Staying tuned to the progress of your St Aug plugs and Frankenlawn

Great Vid, I see the people doing yard work across the street at the 6 min mark as well. Great job

I saw many reviews on the patchmaster, and most ppl says it doesn't work. Is it because they didn't do it right?
